FORENSIC PERSPECTIVE.
In a news program, Discovery ID, a criminal case is analyzed where the suspect is accused of murdering his mother in law. This captures the attention of forensic psychologists, and they are invited to analyze the situation. The suspect’s behavior is appropriately diagnosed, and minor details are put into consideration. The relationship with the mother in law was found to be sour and unfriendly. On several occasions, the neighbors saw him quarrel with the mother in law. As a result, it created some animosity between the two. Based on the forensic report, the two were arguing, and the mother-in-law was furious with her son. Witnesses say that the son lost his temper and hit the mother in law with a vase of flowers. Unfortunately, the mother in law lost his life. Therefore, based on the forensic intervention, the suspect was convicted guilty.
Based on the above-discussed articles, forensics plays an essential role in the solving of criminal activities. The forensic perspective involves conducting investigations, assessments, consultations, research studies, designing and implementing treatment programs and expert courtroom testimonies. It combines the practice of psychology and law both at the same time. Thus the psychological knowledge is applied to civil and criminal situations. Hence, forensic psychologists help solve criminal cases by studying suspects and behaviors to determine their motives (Hollin 2019). As a result, the suspect’s real intention is identified and possibly the person who committed the crime. Hence, forensic psychologists develop a strong understanding of situations. Therefore, communication and strategic thinking skills must also be healthy to judge criminal activity better.
SOCIAL PERSPECTIVE.
Articles found in the local daily several instances of social psychology are discussed. Individuals tend to behave differently when they are around a group of close associates, colleagues or work supervisors. In such situations, a person’s behavior alters depending on the social relationship with the foreign environment. Thus, in a group of people, human behavior tends to change. Another article discusses how social perception influences social behavior. It involves the identification and utilization of social cues to make sound judgments. Leadership is a social activity that transforms people’s goals and ambitions. This is attained through enhancing and contributing members in a group to be cooperative and work towards a common goal. Therefore, social psychology is responsible for the day to day interactions with other people.
In the above articles, the social perspective involves social thinking, social influence and social behavior. By studying each of these aspects, a psychologist enriches his/her understanding of the world and around us. One develops a greater appreciation by knowledge by learning more about others and how they view others—people’s behavior and how attitudes are formed to influence social relationships and individual functioning. Desire to understand ourselves and others ensure the status is maintained and ultimately protected (Crisp & Turner 2020). By extension, it can also attract companions, friends and romantic partners. Thus individuals are advised to gain social status and understand the motivations that guide other people’s behaviors. People tend to behave differently depending on their situation. Therefore, environmental and situational variables significantly influence our human behavior.
