From the time man discovered fire, they also tried to develop ways to battle to control flames. The present Fire Brigade evolved following many years of development and improvements since the pre-historical times. The firefighter history began in the 3rd century in ancient Rome under Augustus. In Ancient Egypt, there was also evidence of firefighting. Ma Licinius Crassus was the first Roman to create the fire brigade. His main aim of making the fire brigade was the fact that Rome had no fighter fighters. After Crassus formed his brigade of about 400 firefighters, they immediately began putting off fire in buildings after a cry of help. However, on arriving at the fire, the firefighters did nothing as they could not conclude their negotiation with the owner of the building hence burning the whole building to the ground.
As from the history of the development of Fire Brigade, we get to understand that despite its creation, it did not meet its purpose at the beginning that was to save buildings from burning to the ground. The story on the development of the fire brigade is precise despite not accomplishing its purposefully due to Crassus and the building owner not meeting a fair negotiation (.Amir, Baldasso., & Kozma, 2020). As an owner of such an essential tool in the community, he could allow the firefighters to clear out the fire then sort the money issue later. In my opinion, Crassus was selfish and money minded and only wanted to benefit himself despite developing the fire brigade for his community. As for the firefighters, I believe they could have also stepped up rather than watching the building burn to the ground,
The first organized firefighting in Britain originated from Roman Invasion in AD43. However, at that time, firefighting was again limited to putting out fire with buckets of water. After the Romans left the firefighting, everything in that sector took a left turn. During those times, many towns burned down due to the lack of a firefighting team, and this is because buildings made of wood were easy to burn (Harrison, 2018). As for London’s great fire in the 3rd century, the communities were left with no choice but to form teams of firefighters in the case of such situations. At that time, the major problem was the firefighting companies, buildings still leaving buildings to burn in the ground until the right fire company made its way into the incidence.
In America, George Washington was initially a volunteer in Alexandra as a firefighter in the 3rd century. He was a member of a firefighting team known as Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Company, at his time as a volunteer; he bought the company a fire engine and gave it to his community. President Benjamin was also a volunteer firefighter who created a fire department in 1736 in Philadelphia. Molly Williams was the first female firefighter. The U.S government had not established a fire department until after the American Civil war (Turgeon, 2019). As the evolution globally occurred, private fire brigades had begun to be found, and they were competing against each other. The reason for such care was because companies paid brigades to save the burning buildings.
A firefighter’s primary duty is to respond to fire, accidents, and other risks to life. One of the responsibilities of firefighters is to protect the public from emergencies, and they are required to respond to a wide variety of calls to assist in a rescue. One of the lessons we can learn from this article is that it’s essential to put one’s pride and needs aside and be considerate during one’s sad situations. Apart from the incident that happened in Rome due to lack of assistance from the Fire Brigade team, such incidents also occurred in Britain, London, and the U.S, whereby the firefighters were of no help and hence the buildings that caught fire burnt to the ground. However, their firefighters have been of benefit and have engaged in causes that are considered charitable down through firefighting generations as evolution continues.
