Executive Summary of the Performance of Warfighting Functions
How well was the performance in three of the warfighting functions?
Every mission aims to emerge victoriously. The same case applies to warfighting, where the aim is to conquer and do away with the problem affecting other people. I will consider the case study of Defense Support of Civil Authorities to come up with a summary of how well was the performance in the warfighting functions.
There was a release of large quantities of chlorine gas after the car transporting it exploded.this was very harmful to the people living in the area. After the accidents, some soldiers went to the area to help the civilians trapped in the situation and needed rescue capabilities. Every person was offering support wherever possible. The operation of rescuing the civilians was essential to all soldiers. This is supported even in the joint publication where it is stated, “Many of these operations involve a combination of military forces and capabilities operating in close cooperation with inter-organizational participants” (Joint Chiefs of Staff, 2017, p VII-1). For example, some soldiers were in charge of using specific methods to identify where casualties were. Others were in charge of extracting victims from the scene and providing medical aid.
In the training of soldiers, the first days are used in teaching them how to perform five primary functions in technical search and rescue. These include vehicle machinery rescue, structural collapse, technology decontamination, ropes rescue, and confined space. Using the knowledge they were able to identify where casualties were. After identification, there is a team that was responsible for rescuing identified victims. This team is required to be flexible, and when their idea does not work, they change to the next. These soldiers collect the casualties and take them to the casualty collection center where they can be transported for medical treatment.
Also, I conducted an urban search to identify the contaminated environment. This was to help in gaining access to areas and extract the patients who could have been trapped there. By making use of the knowledge, these soldiers were able to rescue and take the casualties to the hospitals for treatment (Air University, 1984).
