Ethical issues in nursing
According to studies, nurses are faced with various ethical challenges, especially during patient care. Some have complained of ethical issues related to communication, confidentiality and pressure to meet the needs of the patient. However, these issues don’t occur to nurses only but to the entire healthcare team due to stressful working environment contributed by various factors such as shortage of staff (Preshaw et al. 2016, p.490-506).
The capability of nurses to deliver quality services is affected by time constrain, and shortage of staff as the workload is too much, thus affecting the attitude to work. This is a significant issue as it impacts politics, financial structures and healthcare education. Fresh nurses feel frustrated after noticing there is a significant difference between the theory learnt in school and the nursing practice. Some end up in depression since they are afraid of the consequences of any wrong decision they may make as they are directly responsible. Unliking the nursing student act with instructions of the supervisor.therefore, the theory of least harm should be discussed as it affects most healthcare providers especially when they are faced with a situation of non of choices appearing to be beneficence (Muldrew et al 2020,e29).
