Educational Psychology

The teacher’s responsibility is to integrate activities that pinpoint children’s basic rights in their teaching plans. Additionally, they should stress on various rights and freedoms a child is entitled to, therefore help them comprehend their rights. Every teacher must do their best to conform to the Geneva Declaration of children’s rights standards, therefore enhancing proper growth and development. In this paper, I shall outline how ABC’s lesson is designed to help children, especially under eighteen, about their child rights. Additionally, I will provide an overview of Emma, a student whose mother was diagnosed with cancer pinpointing her academic progress.

Emma’s performance has been worsening since she acquired two jobs to start fending for her family. She sometimes attends lecture late or even fail to attend at all. Little concentration span is another issue she seems to be struggling with of late. Sometimes she even fails to submit her school assignment on time and seems very worried before the exam commences.

Various lessons and approaches can teach about human rights, helping children grip awareness of their basic rights. A good design approach is ABC on the teaching Human rights. It explains educational procedures and the significance of knowing human beings’ worth and dignity, therefore laying the foundation for justice, freedom, and peace in the universe (Bamford, 1997). In simple terms, it emphasizes on rights that all of us are entitled to. This approach acts as empowerment to help people fight for their rights. ABC lessons will be of use in Emma’s life since it will guide her on the procedure that she can use to help her mother get enrolled in government social transfer funds, making it easy for her to pursue her education without strains of fending for her family. Additionally, the approach emphasizes legal procedures that can be taken against any person who discriminates any person living with disabilities (Bamford, 1997). More so, it highlights sentencing and fine, among other punitive measures that can be taken to avoid such kinds of vices.

There are various ways in which the ABC strategy complements the Convention of the Rights of the child (CRC). First, just like CRC, it highlights various rights that a child is entitled to, including rights to identity and right to life. In short, they both stress that a state’s government should act in the best interests of the children. Additionally, the ABC strategy has been crucial in the realization of children’s justice. It has helped reduce the cases of child abuse by creating awareness programs amongst children, hence realizing CRC’s objectives. Finally, they both recommend that stern legal measures be taken against individuals who violate children’s rights. CRC and ABC obligate the various states to ensure that children are not violated in any way, not even through corporal punishment.

As outlined above, it is imperative to comprehend basic rights and freedom an individual is entitled to. It acts as an eye-opener when it comes to fighting for one right. Limited knowledge on human rights has negatively impacted on people’s quality of life.
