Education Systems in Africa
After African countries gained independence from the colonialists, Africans were able to get access to formal education. This has led to development within African. Most of the education systems adopted by most African states have increased the rate of poverty across Africa either by lack of provision of job opportunities or by students still being taught courses that are no longer marketable across the globe. Hence, this paper shall focus on why most education systems adopted by most of the African states are one of the main reasons why poverty is prevalent in the continent.
Formal education is being taught in various learning institutions across Africa. Job opportunities in Africa and the globe are scarce, with many people not willing to resign to leave room for the youth. Many students have thus graduated yet they have not been able to attain jobs despite their high level of education. This has led to graduates roaming the streets since they do not have jobs to cater for their families.
Education systems are expensive. Many Africans cannot be able to afford school fees in order to attain quality education. This brings around stigmatization across Africa. Hence bringing about division across the continent with illiterate people considered not being able to work in the job market bringing about the rise of rate of poverty across Africa.
Education systems have also brought about various courses with less staff to teach those courses. People have preferred their children learning courses such as medicine, law and engineering to courses such as education. This has brought about shortage of teachers to teach in various learning institutions. Due to the lack of teaching staff, people do not get the quality education and they eventually are not able to provide for their families.
In many undeveloped African nations, gender equality is not met. They neither allow women to get quality education nor get jobs. This makes the man to be the only breadwinner of the family. With such ignorance attributed to most education systems adopted by most African states, there is still a rise in rate of poverty in the continent.
Education systems adopted by most African states have not yet developed with the current education technology. The teaching method is not continuous making due to the fact that the teaching method is more of theoretical than practical making knowledge attained in class forgetful. The education system should be current throughout Africa.
In conclusion, most education systems adopted by most of the African states are one of the main reasons why poverty is prevalent in the continent. This is brought about by lack of job opportunities, ignorance of most African states and the lack of updating the education systems. Hence, this has resulted in the increase of poverty thus African nations do not get developed.
