The Concept of Eastern philosophy on Education
Introduction
Ideas of Eastern philosophy on education comprise of both traditional and modern notions that are simultaneously blended to provide humanity with a supreme culture of education. The comparison of the concept of education between the two extreme eras brings forth the question of whether there is possible inherence across them. All these questions concerning the aim and nature of education invite philosophical thinking about education. Once started, one is chronologically drawn into approaching questions of education in systematic, much deep, and philosophical way. This paper will focus on exploring various dogma of a few traditions of the eastern philosophy about education. It, therefore, seeks to address such diverse traditions of the eastern philosophy on their concept of education generates a broad range of hermeneutical ideas that can only be addressed through pedagogical approaches.
Eastern Thought on Education
The major concepts of Eastern philosophy view education as a living knowledge that comprises the acquisition of skills and information throughout the journey of one’s life. It considers the education system as a standardized platform specifically designed for the teacher to teach their students in a communicable and influential way. From this perspective, the entire system of education acts as a focal point that regulates the policy of achieving a particular goal. Thus, the eastern philosophers consider education as a catalyst for eternal progress and lead to the production of visionary individuals.
Aims of Education
As a purposeful and planned activity, educations need to have set aims and objectives. In this case, aims refer to pre-determined goals that can only be achieved through specific activities. The eastern thought considers every individual as productive in the societal setting. It believes that a child is entitled to access the necessary assistance into becoming a useful person in the community through education regardless of their socio-economic status. With this objective in mind, teachers are therefore tasked with enabling learners to maintain purposeful interaction with the environment.
As it is built on the foundations of cause and reasoning, education aims at developing innate intellectual capacity. This is proactive as it enables learners to lead more independent lives with absolute confidence. The knowledge of contemporary values such as truthfulness, honesty, and purity are essential in building exceptional moral standards and developing a sound character.
The implication of Eastern Philosophy on Education
The teachings of the eastern education philosophy consider teachers as the absolute pioneers of imparting knowledge to learners. This thought implies that teachers are responsible for creating classroom effectiveness through planning activities for their students. Every knowledge material comes from the teacher and a student is not required to do anything. Precisely, students are not expected to research on their own because they are obligated to receive input from their teachers. In some cases, the questions posed by teachers on students are considered as rhetorical and therefore students are not allowed to respond.
The eastern philosophy of education values the concept of teaching. It holds to the idea that a learner is bound to receive knowledge from their teachers in a classroom. As a student is expected to rigidly receive knowledge from their teachers, a competent teacher, therefore, needs to be articulate in delivering ideas to his/ her students and squarely equipped with the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with their students.
The philosophical ideologies of eastern education philosophy are built on the concepts of originality and natural conformity. Learners are obligated to live within set rules that are primarily aimed at producing perfect students. The eastern education philosophy believes in the provision of moral support and good manners to students to conform to them with school rules. It gives teachers the responsibility to instill these qualities in their students.
Conclusion
All education activities from the perspective of eastern education philosophy are heavily reliant on philosophical claims and assumptions. Equally, the generation of a defensible curriculum and educational practice is built on the grounds of philosophical understanding. It, therefore, works on the perspective that knowledge of philosophy is beneficial to not only the students and teachers but the whole society. The eastern education philosophy is focused on explaining the meaningfulness of life by restricting its focus to lifestyle.
