Throughout this writing course, I have a couple of things I can reflect on. I expected to find a writing class that resembles the texts I handled during my previous studies level. Frankly, I was proved wrong, hence attesting that writing is a progressive experience, just like life. At first, I had numerous fears and weaknesses in this course. However, I overcame some of these challenges and stepped up for several development stakes in my writing skills. I could not establish my flaws and paws in the writing process until I gained diverse experience through writing essays. Some of the writing modes were difficult, while others were easy for me. Nonetheless, I can now advise and guide myself and other writers on effective writing skills and strategies. Nevertheless, writing is a progressive process that needs an optimistic mindset and practice, not only for academic purposes but also for future endeavors.
At the initial of this writing course, I had fears and weaknesses that needed an upgrade. My greatest weakness in writing originated from my previous level of studies. I used to think that writing is just an easy thing that needed jumping to the work’s answer. I could not do background information regarding the topic in question. Additionally, over-generation was another writing weakness I initially owned. What a messy ideal in writing! Through the first essays, I realized that my mistakes were a source of fear. I vividly remember getting feedback from my professor on my first essays; I assumed I was totally out of track. That experience brought in fears that I would never make ‘perfect’ writing items throughout the course. However, through numerous writings and feedbacks, I optimistically summed up my strengths and abilities to grow and develop my writing skills.
I learned that writing needs an optimistic mindset and the right attitude. Every time I submitted my first essays, I would get feedback that may have completely knocked me out of the writing ring. Maybe I was a beginner in a diverse writing field. However, I developed the right attitude in writing, especially learning from several mistakes I commit to essays. For example, I can remember how I generally approached an idea without providing specific items on the matter. I slowly adapted to the optimistic angle of writing, and obvious in life, that people should learn from their own mistakes without regrets. The more I continued writing, the more I distanced myself from common and tactical writing mistakes, such as grammar errors.
Furthermore, my writing progress spearheaded my development in critical thinking. Critical thinking is an important virtue in life, and so is in the writing course. Through this class, it helped me to establish critical thinking in whatever I do. For example, some of the essays were of different designs, weigh purpose and urgency. My critical thinking skills developed with the great influence of the argumentative essays I tackled. I can remember an argumentative essay I wrote about immigration. I am ashamed to mention how I went ahead to fill my piece with the issue’s sole side. However, my professor’s feedback helped me a lot since I revised the essay and incorporated both sides of the immigration notion. I cannot deny that I have developed my critical thinking, not only in the writing sector but also in life, through this course.
Another essential outcome of this class that helped me develop my writing skills is to strategize my work. A strategy is a core value in writing and life in general. My initial essays could not work well with effective strategies until I gained the relevant skills. For example, I learned that each type of essay has a special approach to handle. More importantly, I learned that each piece of work shared an almost similar portfolio. For example, I could now start my essay with a draft and proceed with previewing and editing before submitting it for final grading. It is a great experience to learn how ideas should be aligned and presented using an effective writing plan and strategy.
I would also reflect on some of the challenging and essay writing modes I have experienced in this course. Persuasion and exposition modes gave me some headaches as I try to present sober essays. Maybe the styles are more complicated in content than other modes. However, I am glad that these essays will not be a big issue in my future writing efforts. On the other hand, there are some writing modes that I found easy to handle. They are narration, description, and imaginative modes. However, I do not assume that I am a pro in handling these writing styles, but I would keep perfecting my writing skills.
Writing is a progressive engagement. Henceforth, I would keep putting practice in every sort of essay. Besides, I would reach for guidance from my instructor and peers to perfect my writing skills. Nonetheless, this reflection paper should benefit not only me but also the audience who desires writing. I would recommend continuous writing practice, even after school life, so that writing becomes easy, sweet, and interestingly no matter the career journey. Indeed, practice makes perfect, not only in writing but also in other life diversities.
