Death penalty
A death penalty is a form of capital punishment given to a person convicted by a court of law of criminal cases. There are many arguments for and against the death penalty, as there are different thoughts about the death penalty in different countries. This is because many countries have banned this type of punishment, but still, there are countries where it is still legal. The consequence of this capital punishment has caused great pain to the affected persons rather than happiness. The aim death penalty is, first, deterrence; it discourages others from committing such offences in fear of their lives being taken away. Another aim is that the death penalty is to retribute, that is, offenders should be executed in retribution for their crimes, and such retribution serves justice for the crime victims.
In the moral context, the death penalty is morally deserving because it serves as a deterrent. When a person is executed, it sets as an example to the rest individuals with missions of committing offences that will claim their lives. Therefore, capital punishment instils fear and prevents further mischief. However, in as much as it’s deterring other people from committing offences and reduces the appalling crimes in the world, its consequences have a significant effect. Death penalty assists the society because it prevents offences. It is not easy to give full support to this claim because those who are deterred by the death penalty do not commit offences, it’s absolute that if people know that they will be killed, they will not perform a particular act.
In conclusion, the death penalty is one of the cruellest forms of punishment. The disadvantages are way more advantages, contrary to the aim of any form of punishment in criminal cases. The justification of the death penalty should be highly considered, the person to whom the penalty is being and the severity of the punishment. Sometimes claiming the life of a minor would be immoral. Instead, the minor should have been, for example, taken to a rehabilitation centre and maybe at the end period of rehabilitation, the minor will be reformed. This will help and would morally reduce the rate of crimes in the world. The natural law of God argues that the life of a human being is precious, only God is supposed to take it way, and no human being is mandated to do so.
