Comparing Mona Lisa and Marilyn Monroe painting
The history that explains more about painting outlines several differences between Mona Lisa and Marilyn Monroe painting. These two arts are primarily recorded as the most popular arts in history and therefore draw much attention and interest to continue being studied ages after ages. The painters crossed the line and created an outstanding figure in women by establishing the two arts of different times, giving people a platform that warrants them to compare the two paints. Thus, similarities and differences are highlighted to explain the two paints thoroughly.
While Da Vinci, in his painting, Mona Lisa uses texture a lot, Warhol’s painting lacks texture. It can be noted that the folds present in the lady’s dress enhance the realism of the painting. Also, In Mona Lisa, the pictures’ background features sharply and smoothly contrast with the woman’s hair and face. Also, the Mona Lisa painting looks more realistic than Warhol’s painting since, in her skin, there is a dotted effect that contrasts Warhol’s, which is rather smooth and perfect-looking.
Warhol’s painting of Marilynn does not create depth in the painting in Mona Lisa; people can further engage with the picture in greater depths and space. The viewers can note that the lady in Mona Lisa is somehow taller than the mountains present in the background, making the woman near the mountains. Also, the streams of water that run up the painting make the viewer’s eye move upstream, hence presenting a long continuous forest. Moreover, the well-thought details about her physical appearances, such as her skirt, hair, and veil, make the viewer perceive her as close. Although, In Warhol’s painting, Marylin’s countenance is centered, and its background is rather a plain color that well contrasts the features of the lady hence providing no depth to the viewer.
An aspect of similarity is depicted in how the two paints used their lines. In both paints, there are no brush strokes evident, and the two paints appear considerably foggy (Kulski, 2018). However, the lines in Mona Lisa can be widely seen as every section resembled a part of the other section, while the lines in Marilyn are hard to pick since the lines are similar, which flows from each of them.
In Mona Lisa and Marilyn Monroe’s paintings, the background is made of contrasting colors to the ladies’ part. This enables the face to appear as if both women’s faces are being pulled forward, making the viewers always note them first. The lady in Mona Lisa forms the biggest part in the painting, and her pale face, which is in line with her dark hair, makes the viewer concentrate on her more. Marylin Monroe is centrally placed at the center of the painting with a strong contrasting background.
Essentially, another difference is seen in the two paints’ appearances, which had a different color. Mona Lisa is dressed plainly without makeup as opposed to Marilyn Monroe, who has lots of makeup. Marilyn had her hair curled and styled (Kulski, 2018). She had a haughty expression on her face, while Mona Lisa is created to have a smiling face that made her seem happy and satisfied.
Based on the similarities and differences portrayed by the two pictures, it is evident that paintings produce a definition of a woman’s secularism. Despite the paintings being created at different times in history, they present a perfect picture of how women at those eras looked like. The paintings engage the viewer at different levels, creating a sense of depth, hence why they are among the world’s most famous paintings.
