Community health nursing entails any form of care offered outside a healthcare setting. Community health nursing is beneficial in various ways, and the need to appreciate community health nurses. Multiple clients are served by community health nurses. Community health nurses should have strong nursing skills and comprehensive knowledge to handle different situations. Community health nurses should be able to portray critical thinking, analysis, and advocacy in different nursing situations clients may be having. In their roles as community health nurses, they should be able to be self-reliant, adaptive, and flexible. Community health nurses have the functions of adapting to different living styles and situations; communication and enhanced organization is a necessity in such occasions. Community health nursing is essential since it builds a caring partnership, less authority, and more egalitarian compared to a patient who is being handled at a healthcare setting (Clark, 2015). In community health nursing, clients have control of their behaviors as they can make contributions to some of the decisions, and nurses can train them on the necessity of healthy behaviors considering that care is holistic. There are many clients involved in community health nursing, including individuals, families of the community at large.

Home healthcare is a service offered by community health nurses at the homes of clients or in their areas of residence. The majority of these residents could be recovering from different illnesses. Case management is a type of care that is given to clients either privately or through insurance companies. In this type of care, assessment, planning, and coordination are done. Wellness care is a type of care where community health nurses meet clients in their environments, and different programs are involved. Public health nursing is a type of community health nursing care that focuses on wellness issues and control of illnesses (Clark, 2015). Community-oriented nursing is a type of community health nursing care that focuses on the entire community at large.

Community health nursing entails incorporating belief systems, lifestyles, and personal issues of clients in nursing processes. Community health nursing focuses on delivering care to clients in various ways, such as managing illnesses or issues of wellness, including exercise, nutrition, family development tasks, aging, sexuality, spirituality, and stress. Community health nurses play roles related to environmental, cultural beliefs, and socioeconomic lifestyle and factors (Harkness & DeMarco, 2016). Community health nurses address health challenges and potential health challenges that may arise in a community.

Clients in community health nursing should have access to government resources to facilitate the delivery of healthcare services in a community setting. Some of these resources include healthcare facilities, staff, transportation, and space (Harkness & DeMarco, 2016). Some agencies are responsible for these resources. They include public health organizations, dental and health plans, colleges and universities, foundations, community service organizations, government organizations, multicultural associations and alliances, volunteer groups, local and state health departments, and local hospitals, among others. Some of the community agencies which have significantly impacted community health nursing include Multiple Sclerosis Society, Area Agency on Aging, American Cancer Society, Women, Children, and Infants food program, the Department of Social Services, among others.
