Part 2: Commentary on the Timeline
The timeline shown is a step by step chronology of the different educational life events in my educational journey. It depicts a positive influence on foundations in determining the promotion of knowledge to different stages of life. It also represents education stages and the quest to attain knowledge as one of the greatest human journeys that can be preserved. The transformation involves a gain in knowledge and understanding. Thus the timeline indicates that Education is a lifelong process that has enabled me to grow because it plays a central role in helping me conform to the norms of society.
To ensure Education is made relevant, biological adaptation plays a vital role. According to Xia, 2018, the ability of a person to adapt to the environment and learn to accept the values and morals in the educational set up is critical in social development.
In addition to this, all that is required for learning and functioning differs in different facets of Education. Thus, individuals ought to identify and resolve their emotional instabilities in a bid to interact effectively with others. This is the aspect of social expectation throughout the life of a student. To be able to fit in the society and accept the societal norms, it is essential to work with other people in the community to determine the weakness and strengths for improvement of self, just like the social norms in the day to day lives. Caroli and Weber 2016 assert that the expectations of both men and women are based on concepts that can adapt the social gender roles to the biological functions.
In my educational concepts, I will be in a position to apply these concepts by ensuring that both the ‘nature’ and ‘nurture’ work together to influence my biological processes more effectively. Since learning institutions are thought to be agents of socialization, I will apply the concepts by relating with the staff, the teachers, and other students because, according to Ghorbani and Jomenia, 2018, the primary socialization about school is the peer group. Additionally, to better adapt to the different education choices, I need to respect myself, the teachers, and the students and also require to be in a position to take responsibility for all my actions.
Explanation of the Choices in the timeline
2005 Enrolled in Cosmetology School
This was guided by the need to understand better early childhood gender socialization. This is because gendered expectations are transmitted to children as a result of socialization. Knowledge of gender is instilled as a result of modeling and reinforcement. I gained an understanding of the expectations that society reinforces through explicit punishments and rewards.
2007 Enrolled in Business Office Technology School
As a result of gaining an understanding of gender role identity and concepts, I was better equipped with a tolerance of different races, social class, ethnicity, and the salience of sex and gender. This was also pushed by a desire to solve substantial problems and need to communicate better with peers and improve communication skills as a woman.
2010 Enrolled in Broward College
With a sort of reproductive freedom and controversy of the social construction of the cultural image of intimate relationships played a significant role in the choices made. Changes in biological makeup and a desire to explore socialism with the opposite gender set in and options made, however, were determined by the expectation of the society.
2020 Enrolled in Human Services Program at Purdue Global
I was guided by a desire to understand better services that are expected by both genders with a more profound desire to understand the role of women in society. Also, the desire to learn how to assist individuals and communities in functioning more effectively in the major domains of living. The strong desire was to socialize and help others improve their lives, thereby enhancing the quality of experience in the community.
Conclusion
According to Semper and Blasco 2018, hidden curriculum refers to the unwritten, unofficial, and unintended values and lessons that are learned in school. The curriculum expresses and also represents knowledge, behavior, and attitudes taught in school. By learning appropriate action in school as well as the social expectations of morals, ethics, gender, and language, I learned the need and the ability to respect the opinions of other students. By interacting with students of all nationalities in college, gender stereotypes came in handy as well as cultural expectations and politics.
