College Admission Essay
Humans are prone to challenges and failures that prepare them for future success. Thus being unexceptional, I encountered various obstacles and failures before emerging a victor. The challenges and obstacles began in my freshman year of high school. I had joined a new school where I had to meet new teachers, students, and make new friends. Initially, things flowed well, and the GPA of my first semester was impressive. However, life took a left turn when I met new friends and established rapport with them. I joined a group of friends who did not push me towards the right path of academic success but to the opposite direction of failure.
Being a first-generation college student, I had no prior ideas about my experiences in college. Thus my parents had hopes that I will score better grades to join a college. Unfortunately, on the exploration, adventure, and interaction process, I joined the wrong group of friends in high school. Although things were going well in the first semester, they got worse in the second semester of my freshman year. My class attendance rate dropped, which resulted in my worse GPA. Since my friends and I were sailing in the same direction of failure, I did not feel guilty about my deteriorating academic grade. During the spring break, my parents realized that I was missing the track and that something was wrong somewhere. My parent decided to visit my school to know the source of my academic failure. They discovered that I rarely attended classes and did not turn in my class assignment. My parents threatened to withdraw their financial support out of anger, which would lead to dropout from school.
Having realized that I had failed my parents, I had to decide to quit the friendship and connection with the group to start afresh. Although it was not an easy process, I had to choose before things got worse on my side. As a result, I became selective about whom I associated and became friends with. I focused on catching up with the lost time and past class to improve my GPA. Fortunately, I caught up with all the failed courses by the end of the semester. As a result, my GPA increased from 2.0 in the previous semester to 3.4. Currently, I rank among the top students in my class. I am glad and happy with my achievement, and my parents are proud of the changes and progress I have made so far.
After changing my friends’ list and concentrating on my academics, I have achieved greatness and discovered myself. The change improved not only my GPA but also uncovered my passion. I want to join the STEM program and concentrate on the science discipline. I have a passion for veterinary medicine, and I would like to become an animal technician. I believe with veterinary medicine, I will participate in caring for the animals and conduct lab medical researchers to discover various animal medications. Therefore, I believe my past failures and experiences opened my eyes to discover my passion and potential. I also learned that change requires efforts, and it begins by making tough decisions. I discovered that taking lessons learned from failures, challenges, and obstacles enables an individual to change and succeed in the future. Thus people should take failure and obstacles as the fundamental source of knowledge for later progress.
