Villains of Stories Introduction Villains are referred to as individuals in stories, plays, or movies that display evil actions in the literary work plot, which are very significant to the literary work’s plot. In many instances, these characters are referred to as antagonists who oppose the main characters referred to as protagonists. This being the case, the villains in question in this instance are those from two short stories, “Voir Dire” and “Doing Time in 13th Chair”. The first story (“Voir Dire”) depicts a state of affairs where a public defender named Hank Low struggles with his legal representation of and an individual named Chee Seng Lam, the villain in the story, who was a drug addict doing cocaine and was prosecuted for allegedly battering the infant son (Simon) to his girlfriend (Ruby) to death. Retrieval cues are factors that stimulate the retrieval of information from memory. For example, someone might hear a song on the radio, which might make someone remember some things that happened in the past. The memories can be revoked even when the listener did not want to. The encoding specificity principle determines how the retrieval cue will be effective (Budiu, 2014). The principle states that if the extent of the retrieval cue is the same or more than the memory, the memory will be revoked, and the person will remember it. Recall is a type of memory retrieval technique in which information is retrieved without any retrieval cues. Recall involves retrieving information that a person does not know how the information ended up in the memory. As compared to recognition, recall uses a higher level of processing. By default, humans have recall as an adaptation (Kowalczyk, n.d). By the use of recall, humans have been able to create complex machines and systems that are used to solve the current problems. On the other hand, recognition is a memory retrieval which…
Evidenced-base in design Despite the military and economic power that America wields, it is a surprise that it still lags in getting proper healthcare for all its citizens. However, in the recent past, Congress has been working to address this issue through the proposal and enactment of policies and legislation to help all Americans access the right healthcare at the right price. Family Support Services for Addiction Act of 2020 will enable Americans who problems with substance addiction get more support from family members because there is adequate evidence that family-based support helps people overcome this issue. The proposed policy addresses drug and substance abuse from family support. It aims at establishing a grant program for nonprofit organizations that provide support for people with substance abuse problems and their families (US Congress, 2020). The organizations can then use the funds to enhance support through education, provide a support network, and provide evidence-informed tools for the families better to manage their loved ones with substance use disorder. I believe there is an evidence base to support the proposed healthcare policy. Evidence…

Introduction The relationship between the leader and the follower has been studied for many decades. Little research has been done on the relationship between emotional intelligence and leader-member exchange (LMX) (Ashkanasy et al., 2019). The leader exchange theory is a leadership process, which is understood by the quality of interactions and opportunities surrounding the phenomenon behind leadership, and the followers’.A leader-member exchange is a unique exchange among the leaders and their followers. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has the second most diverse ethnic groups in the world. The country has experienced a great challenge of ethnic conflict for many years. Actors in peacebuilding recognize negative ethnicity as one of the conflicts (Karbo & Mutisi 2012). The purpose of the current proposal is to present a summary of issues that identify with the ethnic conflict in DRC associated with ethnic conflict, driving forces and conflict resolutions. Historically, as soon as the Congolese started to negotiate their independence from the Belgians in late 1959, conflicts between the fragile democratic system of Congo and the Belgians led to the killing of the new country’s first Minister Patrice Lumumba. Colonial exploitation continued due to hasty independence, and the country remained a victim of outside interference, manipulation, and renewed authoritarianism. The proposal considers Joseph-Désiré Mobutu’s authoritarian regime, which triggered a combination of resistance and the local and region-wide ethnic conflicts to be the root cause of the ethnic conflicts in DRC (Beswick 2009, 337). The proposal supports the view the…
Oppression in The Yellow Wallpaper In her novel ‘The Yellow Wallpaper,’ Gilman uses oppression of women as the primary theme. Witten in 1892, the narrative seeks to depict the struggles faced by women, particularly women after giving birth. The story focuses on the narrator’s struggles after barely surviving while giving birth. The protagonist endures an unspeakable ordeal in the hands of her husband, John. In this novel, Gilman skillfully incorporated oppression, both literary and symbolically, to portray the unimaginable challenges encountered by women during pregnancy and after giving birth. The theme of oppression is evident even in the book’s title, the yellow wallpaper. Symbolically, the term yellow paper indicates unclean and unpleasant situations that most women find themselves in while dealing with pregnancy and postnatal stress. Given that the narrative was written in the 19th century when maternal care was not advanced, Gilman was trying to reveal to the world the oppression most women often encounter after childbearing. Women often suffer from depression and anxiety due to pregnancy and postnatal stress. To make matters worse, the people who are in…
