Conceptual and creative artists Kara Walker is an American conceptual artist who specializes in silhouettes and printmaking. Most of Walker’s artwork is found in museums – with the majority of her art representing gender, race, sexuality, identity, and violence. In my opinion, Walker’s work is not drawing since most silhouettes she creates are a result of ‘dead’ photography. Silhouettes are created when the light source is placed behind the subject’s outline (probably cut from a piece of paper) – and the photo of the shadow formed from the item is taken. Walker’s style helps to communicate her ideas to the audience because it expresses the artist’s feelings. Through her artwork, Walker helps capture people’s attitudes regarding issues that happen in society. In this way, people get to understand what society does not show them. I feel that Walker’s artwork has opened my eyes – enabling me to understand some significant issues in the modern-day world, probably those hidden secrets that go unnoticed. Russell Crotty is another creative artist who is passionate about surfing themes and astronomy. His work revolves around…
Chapter 3&4 This week, I would wish to pose the question of the specific factors which pose an impact on biopsychology. It is necessary for people to attain an impeccable level of brain development. The mechanism is, thus, important in enabling people to attain the best behaviors which are desirable for them. It is necessary for them to put into action sound reasoning, which is likely to influence the decisions which they make at a particular moment. Therefore, having a proper understanding of the factors which impact biopsychology is important in showing how the entire concept could be improved (Spielman, 2017). It is necessary for people to be more aware of the specific modalities which they need to put more considerations on. The strategy is generally important in influencing the levels of decisions that they are likely to make at a particular moment. Therefore, they make the necessary determinations, which are essential in boosting their outcomes and enabling them to focus on the right methodologies, which are desirable for them. Furthermore, I believe that students of psychology need to be…
Meet Saanvi! She can be considered my twin-half just with some extra dozes of laziness and indifference. Whether I am sitting on my wedding throne or there is some giant jumble of Hurricane, typhoon, or Tsunami on its way, we just need to share phone-calls. We call the sister therapy. So just I, bragging about my part and my league of Working-from-home Army, won’t make the mark. She is going to read this too and going to demand a detailed demonstration of her devastating disasters that she deals with daily these days! Her everyday story again made me realize that we think the other side is always Green and hardly satisfied with anything we treasure. It was a Sunday night when I had dropped a call after dinner, and she sounded lower than usual. “What is it that is troubling you?” I guessed PMS as usual, but No. It was Monday tomorrow, and she was called to work in person. I did not contradict the fact and inside tried to relate with the emotions she was expressing that it was…
How food waste can be recycled into organic fertilizer Hypothesis This research study is exploratory in nature in that it focuses on examining the most effective approach to how food waste can be recycled into organic fertilizer through composting. To achieve this purpose, the research study will aim at testing the following research hypothesis. Null hypothesis: Organic fertilizer produced through compositing from food waste is more effective in producing quality plants compared to other fertilizers applied in farms. Alternate hypothesis: Organic fertilizer produced through compositing from waste food is less effective in producing quality plants compared to other fertilizers applied in farms. Methodology Research design This research study will be based on an experimental research design. The rationale for selecting the experimental research design will be to provide insight into the effect of the method of producing fertilizer from organic food waste on the quality of the final product. The study will thus be conducted in a controlled environment. By integrating the experimental research design, it will be possible to investigate the research hypothesis by investigating the causal effect in…
Chapter 1-2 Q&A In this week, I would wish to pose the question on the specific concepts which students and psychology professionals need to consider to make research effective. I understand that research is an important part of the study of psychology (Spielman, 2017). It enables both students and professionals to unearth information which is important to them and boosts their level of understanding of the field. However, the virtue of research is pegged on doing it soundly. The approach is important in ensuring that critical information is obtained. The insights gathered in the process can be used in providing pertinent insights. Being aware of the concepts to consider while conducting research will be valuable both to my academic and professional practice. I will be keen to adhere to the specifications which are entailed within. Much of my focus will be on assessing the situation and ensuring that I gather information which is valuable to me. Through the process, it will be possible for me to be outstanding in applying the information which is deemed critical. I also believe that…
Watergate Scandal The events that created the Watergate Scandal include a hostile political climate. Richard M. Nixon, the Republican President was running for reelection at a time when the country was so divided due to the Vietnam War. This made it essential for the president and his key advisers to resort to a forceful presidential campaign which turned out to be illegal espionage. In May 1972, the CREEP (Committee to Re-Elect the President) broke into the Democratic National Committee’s Watergate headquarters where they made away with top-secret documents and bugged office’s phones. A group of the members of the CREEP returned to the Watergate building on 17th June after realizing that the wiretaps were not working. They were arrested when a security guard realized that someone had taped over most of the building’s door locks. The five burglars were not immediately connected to the president (Novick & Burns, n.d). However, when the detectives identified the reelection committee’s white house phone number among one of the burglar’s belonging, this raised suspicion. Washington Post reporters Woodward and Bernstein discovered the role of…
Representative Democracy In the first week, the focus has been directed towards what the course entails. All the requirements in the class have been clearly explained. My primary concern goes towards these write-ups and discussions. My choice goes to these write-ups considering the fact that I have a lot of time to organize my thoughts and present them, unlike in a discussion, there will be time limits. Apart from the course requirements, the lectures have revolved around democracy and the types of governments that U.S. politics can be linked to. One particular issue that resonates with the current time in the U.S. is the issue of representative democracy. In the lecture, U.S. is termed as a representative democracy because “The U.S. citizens vote for members of Congress…..” In other words, U.S. citizens have presented with a chance to elect their leaders of choice in a democratic way (Adriana 2020). However, one significant concern I have on this form of democracy regards whether aspects of inequalities are taken care of and how do those minority groups enjoy the right to…
OPTIMISING SOMATIC EMBRYOGENESIS OF C. ARABICA HYBRIDS IN KENYA USING TEMPORARY IMMERSION SYSTEM CHAPTER ONE Introduction The agricultural sector is a major contributor to Kenya’s economic growth accounting for 25.4% (indirectly) and 27% (directly) of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (ICO, 2019). The sector concurrently provides employment to 80% of the rural workforce and is responsible for 65% of the total exports earnings (ICO, 2019). The coffee sub-sector is among the contributors to the growth of Kenya’s GDP through foreign exchange, income generation, employment opportunities and food security. The sub-sector accounts for 5.5% of the country’s total exports, with a share of 0.22% of the GDP equivalent to Kshs. 23 billion per annum (ICO, 2019). The production capacity has consequently decreased from 120,000 metric tons in the 1980s to 40 000 metric tons in 2018 (Monroy et al.; 2013, ICO 2019). The decline in coffee production is the result of decreased competitive global prices, poor management of the sub-sector, inadequate value addition policies and poor production practices including inadequate control of coffee diseases in the country (Monroy et…
Western culture Western culture is known as the universe of values, customs, practices, traditions, religious beliefs, economic system, and political-social organization representative of Western America and Western Europe, either because they originated there or because they were assumed as their own. The names of western society, western civilization, European civilization, and Christian civilization are also used with the same meaning (Raffino). By extension, those countries where Western Europe established its hegemony and inherited its languages, socio-political ordering system, religion, a system of law, educational model, values and customs are considered part of western culture or westernized countries (Uriarte) This paper will focus on the topic of Western society and the specific event of colonization. The paper will examine the cultural, economic, and political implications of colonization in the American society. According to Uriarte, the set of characteristics that are considered distinctive of Western culture include the following: Permanent reference to the culture of Greek antiquity, with an emphasis on rational thought (philosophy, literature, science, politics, and art). Civil-military and administrative heritage of the Roman Empire, with emphasis on Roman law.…
Management Plan for Change Change orders are always present and can take place anytime. They are still inevitable during the building process. A change order refers to a work that is removed or added from the project’s original scope. When the change order occurs, the initial project undergoes some changes (Ansari, 2019). In most cases, adjustments in the original scope are made to modify the project’s date of completion. Also, the budget of the contract undergoes modification to meet the desired outcome of the project. The project team often makes an effort to prevent changes that may disrupt the normal working process during the building process. However, change orders are rampant. Various reasons contribute to the change in orders during construction. One of the leading causes is the unknown conditions at the site of development. Some of the terms may include unsuitable soil that may not support the building. Building a house on unsuitable soil may increase the risk of collapsing the house. As a result, the contractor or the client may request a change in the construction site (Ansari,…
