Analyzing the videos, one can stop at the fact that the narrators address capital punishment from various perspectives. The first video, ”Top 5 Facts about Capital Punishment,” is informative in presenting information related to the topic (WatchMojo. com, 2016). The second video, divided into the title ‘Death Sentence vs. Life In Prison’, deals with the practical as well as ethical aspects of the death penalty and life imprisonment, suggesting the latter to be a better option than the former. Despite the intention to be informative, Watch prompts prejudice and classification of facts and scenes that focus on the negative consequences of capital punishment.
The presenters seem to have a hidden aim, especially in the second video, as the accentuation of wrongful executions and increased expenses of the death penalty implies their opposition to it. This bias is evident in framing issues and probably in the way evidence is interpreted selectively. The ethical concerns highlighted are whether it is right for the state to take death on itself, the concern of executing the wrong persons, and lastly, the costs of capital punishment as compared to a life imprisonment term. I find myself in the scenario commenting on the practicality and the inherent ethics of the death penalty. The other issue that arises concerning wrongful executions is that they cannot be reversed, regarding which the Roman Catholic Church rightly states that in matters of life and death, any error is inadmissible.
Additionally, there is an ethical consideration, which is a prohibition against capital punishment, as it is contrary to what should be accomplished by the justice system, which is to reform offenders. Lastly, the high financial costs incurred in the practice of the death penalty, which in many cases are way more than imprisonment for life, also negate it. As for the choice, the option meets the principles of justice, human dignity, and the need for the protection of innocent people’s lives, clearly punishing the most severe crimes and giving a chance to correct mistakes in the case with the imprisoned persons. These ethical considerations raise the importance of justice to accommodate the rights of individuals and respect life.
