Artificial Intelligence and the Society
As with other events in society, as artificial intelligence progresses to reshape the world people live in, there will be positive and negative effects on society. Artificial intelligence (AI) does a great deal of good and will proceed to provide modern society with many advantages, but there will undoubtedly be adverse effects together with the good. The earlier individuals start to understand what they may be, the better prepared they are to minimize and handle the risks. This paper seeks to address the various implications of artificial intelligence on society in both the negative and the complementary sectors.
Positive Implications
Artificial intelligence can significantly boost our workplaces’ effectiveness and expand the work that people can do. When AI takes over repeated or risky tasks, it frees the human workers to do work for which they are better adjusted, activities that, among others, require imagination and compassion. It will improve productivity and job satisfaction if individuals do work that is more engaging for them. Artificial intelligence will have a drastic effect on health care with improved tracking and diagnostic tools(Popkova & Gulzat, 2019). AI will minimize running costs and save funds by optimizing the activities of healthcare facilities and medical organizations. One McKinsey report estimates that big data will save up to $100B annually for medication and pharma. The true effect would be on patients’ treatment. It would be life-changing for individualized treatment plans and medication protocols, as well as allowing providers more access to information through medical centers to better guide patient care.
With the advent of integrated transport and AI affecting our traffic jams, the society will achieve endless hours of efficiency, not to consider the other aspects in which it will boost on-the-job productivity. Freed up from exhausting commutes, people will be able to invest their time in several different ways. Artificial intelligence will improve the way people discover illegal activity and solve offenses. Technology for face detection has become just as popular as fingerprints. The use of AI in the judicial system also offers many ways to find out how to use advanced technology without violating a person (Popkova & Gulzat, 2019). If you want to live securely and never expect to communicate with the contemporary age, artificial intelligence would significantly impact your life. While as the technology rolls out into new apps, there will be many learning encounters and obstacles to be met. The hope will be that artificial intelligence will significantly have more benefits than an adverse effect on society.
Negative Implications
Since individuals design AI algorithms, those who deliberately or unintentionally insert them into the algorithm may have a built-in bias. If AI algorithms are designed with prejudice or the knowledge is biased in the classification models they are provided to learn from, they can generate biased results. This fact could lead to dangerous situations, such as those we saw with discriminatory recruitment algorithms and the racist Twitter chatbot of Microsoft (Makridakis, 2017). They have to be built and educated responsibly as businesses make AI algorithms. Secondly, while artificial intelligence can generate several jobs and many people expect a net increase in jobs or hope that the same volume will be generated to replace those lost due to AI technology, there will be jobs that machines can take over today. This will entail revisions to training and education systems to educate our work environment and support existing transition employees.
In case artificial intelligence takers over manual duties and gives room for people to substantially minimize the duration they require to consume at a job, the additional freedom may appear like a utopia at an initial glance. Nevertheless, to feel their life has a role, humans should direct their newly established freedom into new operations, which provide them with the same cognitive and social gains provided by their job. This could be simpler for some individuals and communities compared to others (Popkova & Gulzat, 2019). When robots take over tasks that humans used to get compensated for doing, there would probably be economic concerns. In the profit-loss reports of corporations, the economic effects of increased efficiency gains are pretty obvious. Still, the net merits to society and human existence are a little more elusive.
While the globe is a much quieter place due to different technology than ever before, this also implies that among various governments, AI technology requiring new laws and regulations will have to be decided to facilitate stable and efficient global relations (Makridakis, 2017). Since individuals are no longer separated from each other, one country’s actions and choices on artificial intelligence may very quickly negatively impact others. As Europe has embraced a rigorous regulatory framework to promote approval and accountability, people are now seeing this happen. Simultaneously, the US and China enable their businesses to apply AI in a far more flexible manner.
To sum up, it will take time and thorough human thinking to decide the best way to plan for a world of far more artificial intelligence systems to ensure that it is reduced as much as practicable, even if there is the possibility for harmful consequences implementation. As is the scenario for any disruptive occurrence, these are not easy to overcome scenarios, but we still have people invoking them.
