Article Writing
Telling success stories has been my passion for a long time. Hatua has helped many youths get 3x what their parents earn and also enabled youths to join college. I believe these are stories that should be told to the world, more so, the story of allowing over 560 youths to acquire skills.
I have had this kind of experience of working with youths while at the Sustainable Rural Initiative. I used to train Computer Skills. The organization also empowered youths by paying their school fee from primary school to university level. As a communication officer, I wrote success stories of students who succeeded in their endeavors and published them on their website and newsletters.
I’m currently a part-time journalism Tutor at Kenya Coast National Polytechnic in Mombasa for the last three years. As a teacher, I have had the opportunity to deal with Mombasa youths and interacted with media personalities in the town.
Starting in 2020, I designed a website called Asali Digitals. In the site, I run a blog that teaches Start-Ups business how they can use digital marketing, more so social media marketing, to get clients. I write articles of steps that are easy to follow that will help business.

Share with us about two marketing campaigns you worked on in the past, where the goal was to inspire people to move to action, which you find relevant to Hatua’s context. For each please outline: a) What was the situation like? Why was it going to be difficult to move people to action? b) What strategies did you apply to meet your goal? Which channels or tools did you use? c) What difficulties did you encounter while carrying out the campaign? d) What were the final results? e) Outline clearly, what was your role in this and what others were in charge of.*
First Marketing Campaign Scenario
When I was working at Sustainable Rural Initiatives as an Information Management Officer, one of my key roles was to sensitize the community to take their children to school and convince them we are here to help their children.
Members of the community were skeptical because they thought NGOs are using them to get donors funds due to past encounters. We were also relatively new.
We used Chief Barasas, women groups, motorcycle groups, churches, funerals, schools, football clubs, youth groups, community forums, and Facebook Page to reach out.
40% of the youths in the area were on Facebook, so we encouraged them to get all information. As for the social groups like women groups and youth groups, I had to join as a member, contribute money, and occasionally participate in their activities.
Some youth groups were skeptical at first, but they heard how other groups benefitted from our education programs, then they opted to join. We encouraged youths to share our Facebook page with others.
The final results are: the community involved us in their programs by inviting us. They gave us vulnerable children to take to school. More so, they gave us forums like we sponsored their football tournaments.
Second Marketing Campaign Scenario
The second experience is when I launched my Website Asali Digitals as the founder. The website is meant to get clients to buy my services and have huge online traffic. I am using social media platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and Pinterest to get clients.
It’s challenging using the Cold Pitching method, where I sample various companies I want to work with. I go to their website and get the contacts of decision-makers and cold pitch.
I send over 500 cold pitch emails, which I finally got two clients who give me social media marketing and designing jobs once in a while. The website is still growing.
Tell us about a time when you saw an opportunity to approach a project or a difficult goal differently, that nobody else saw. a) What was the situation like and why was creativity needed here? b) What was the opportunity you saw and why did you think it would work well? c) How did you move ahead with your idea? What were the results?*
I believe in passive income. So I saw an opportunity to create a website that will generate income and showcase my skills with time. The project was challenging because I had limited resources and skills to make a website.
I had to do research online through video tutorials to make a WordPress website. I used YouTube and enrolled in HubSpot Academy to enroll in content marketing tutorials. The projected needed a lot of creativity like WordPress website designing; SEO writing; Content marketing; Social media marketing and inbound Marketing
Right now, I’m building backlinks to my website to increase its Domain Authority and have more exposure online. The website https://asalidigitals.com/ so far has made me more professional in my freelance career.
