APRN Regulations in Florida
The Florida Nurse Practice Act ensures that the nurses who practice in Florida meet all the necessary minimum requirements for them to practice (Toney-Butler & Martin, 2019). The state prohibits any nurse who does not meet the minimum qualifications, aiming to eradicate the less qualified nurses. According to Huynh & Haddad (2020), the advanced practice nurse is a licensed nurse and has also attained specialized education, training, and experience and thus certified by the Board of Nursing in the specific state. After the nurse is approved, they can perform advanced nursing in the country. Below are some of the regulations for ARNP in Florida:
One of the regulations is on the standards of education (Huynh & Haddad, 2020). In Florida, the Florida Board of Nursing requires nursing agencies such as health clinics, hospitals, and nursing schools to work together for the patient’s best and ensure that the nurses get a quality education. After attaining the minimum qualifications, the board requires that the nurse be licensed to practice in the state of Florida. According to Toney-Butler & Martin (2019), the nurse seeking a license should apply to the Department of Health to issue an examination. If the candidate qualifies in their exams, they receive the approval, and only the fully qualified candidates can practice in Florida.
The Florida Board of Nursing also sets standards for the practitioners to be accountable in healthcare provision. The standards are based on legal, ethical, and professional standards for nursing to favor the nurse during any complaint against; the Florida Board of Nursing guarantees such nurses the right to due process. The due process ensures that the nurse’s requests are not ignored.
APRN Regulations in Georgia
According to Huynh & Haddad (2020), every state in the US has laws that monitor and direct the nursing practice. In Georgia, the Georgia Board of Nursing is responsible for the regulation and governing of the nurses. Like in the state of Florida, Georgia’s Board of Nursing also prepares a licensing examination for any nurse who wants a license of practice as an advanced nurse. Also, the standards on discipline are similar in the states of Florida and Georgia. Both states’ Board of Nursing monitors and manages the nurse’s conduct and takes the necessary actions where need be. In both countries, the Board of Nursing requires the advanced practice nurse to work closely with at least one physician in the physician’s departments (Stephens, 2015).
The nurse’s failure to have a full practice will limit the nurse from providing cost-effective, comprehensive, and high-quality services in healthcare (Bosse et al. 2017). With the current regulations in the different states, there have been some effects, as Neff et al. (2018) address them. Some of these effects include viewing the nursing practice in a traditional view (Stahlke Wall, 2018). Also, the regulations limit the nurse’s ability to provide healthcare in areas without reliable primary healthcare providers. Due to these regulations, the nurse cannot fully enjoy their practice scope since the rules limit the nurse’s practice ability (Neff et al., 2018).
