Clinical Question: Evidence-based practices for students with severe disabilities (2014)

Description of the problem

The individuals with severe and moderate developmental disabilities have been provided with some of the dramatically growing educational services since the learners with disabilities were initially granted a free adequate public education in about five decades ago. However, the learning institutions were not required to deliver services before, but at the present moment, schools are obliged to be accountable in ensuring that all the learners inclusive those with severe disabilities make appropriate yearly progress. For the students’ progress appropriately, educational practitioners need to access the most relevant and available instructional procedures. Over the past forty years, fortunately, there has been a dramatic growth in the research on teaching students with severe difficulties. However, how IC can summarise present, high quality research on the teaching of the students with severe disabilities is limited, and it needs to be underpinned.

The significance of the problem

There are several individuals who are born with moderate to severe disabilities. If left unattended, it becomes far much difficult for them to progress adequately in learning. Therefore, there is a need for educational practitioners to devise ways of helping such individuals. This is because their populations are rapidly growing as a result of the dramatic and rapid overall populations’ growth. An IC has the capacity of identifying and describing the fundamental components of learning practice or innovation to helping individuals with severe and moderate disabilities.

Purpose of the paper

This paper primarily features an innovation configuration (IC) matrix which has the capacity of guiding teachers to prepare professions in the development of essential, evidence-based practices (EBP) particularly for learners experiencing severe disabilities.
