American Dream
The American dream is defined as ” the aspirational belief in the US that all individuals are entitled to the opportunity for success and upward social mobility through hard work.” That is because the US has been considered a land of opportunities by most people. After America got independence, it was considered a land of all people. Years later, it became a land of all people as long one was willing to work hard. Opportunities were present to make people successful.
Over the years, the population has increased, and the notion that America is the land for all has changed. Disunity has been experienced, which is not suitable for the upward mobility of people who live in America and foreigners. All these have led to the resources required for honest people to use in upward mobility diminishing. Therefore most people say the American dream is dead.
According to Abrams (2019), the American dream is well and alive. The reason is that the American dream has not died but changed. Most of the people in America are looking for upward mobility and stability. In recent days that has changed, and the American dream is all bout the simple life that is the availability of peace, a meal, a walk, a conversation, or a hug with no struggle.
The future of the American dream lies in the hand of the people. They have to change the future by making a good future out of it. A future where there will be no political or social struggle. Like Lennon says in his song, “Imagine there’s no countries/ It isn’t hard to do/ Nothing to kill or die for/ And no religion too/ Imagine all the people/ Living life in peace.” If the people of America can think of a country that supports brotherhood and peace, then the future of the American dream is promising and alive.
