American Cinema

The direction of filmmaking business in the US has undergone a tone of changes since the early ages to date. The United States v Paramount pictures case and Hollywood blacklist were the primary cause for significant changes in the industry. The changes were effected as a result of the near-monopoly that was conducted by the notable people in the film making industry. Great and selected actors and directors were being given exclusive contracts that restricted the movies they filmed in. They were to be loyal to those specific managers contracting them; their work was generally limited to what was assigned to them. The goons also controlled the movies that were displayed in independent theaters. This was restricting what gets to people’s screens and the film they choose to see. They even owned the companies that premiered theatres. Due to this change was necessary to this industry to promote a fair working condition for the US citizens.

The United States v Paramount pictures case was ruled in favor of the government. It meant the film industry was set free from monopolists who wanted to rule the industry for their specific benefits. As a result, the sector resulted in the growth of television shows in the country. They were free from the control that was there before then. It also led to setting free of actors and directors who had been issues exclusive contracts. It meant that they were now free to feature in any movies premiered at their convenience. They later acted as stars in the television shows that were recorded from then on.  Independent shows were now free to play movies of their choice from the sources they saw fit. It created an equal opportunity for all who had a passion for the industry as they could showcase their work.

The Hollywood blacklist was aimed at getting rid of communist supporters in the film making industry. The blacklist was aimed at getting rid of professionals from the entertainment industry who were said to be in support of the communist part. It cut across directors, actors, and screenwriters. They were banned from working in any movie studio. This move opened up film direction in the industry as it allowed other people to join the industry at their own free will. The communist could no longer control the industry as they used. Just like the case between the united states v Paramount pictures, it allowed for the growth and development of the industry by allowing actors to work in the studio of their choice. Other individuals could now own production companies, and they could work in support of each other.

Both the United States v Paramount pictures case and the Hollywood blacklist aimed at setting free the film making business in the US. They provided a free and fair opportunity for citizens willing to explore the industry. Independent theaters were allowed to play what they felt fit for their audience. Moreover, actors and directors were set free to work for the companies of their choice. It opened an excellent opportunity for the development of TV shows in the US, which absorbed most of the actors and directors dropped from the exclusive contracts. The Hollywood blacklisting aimed at preventing people in the film industry from engaging in the communist party as they could see the repercussions. Evidently, the two have significantly contributed to the changes experienced in the film industry in the US.
