America as a policeman of the world
Introduction
The power of the United States of America as far as world politics goes remains unquestioned especially after the triumph over the cold war that marked the better part of the 20th century. Contrary to most colonized countries, the USA had a great rising declaring independence with 13 united federations with a high constitution to guide the new nation. The strength and coherence of their laws alongside the vast amount of resources they had as well as the diversity the country boast of are some of the features that influence its superiority over other nations of the world regarding economic and military power. As much as the position of USA on the global field is done and dusted, the question that lingers is the motivation behind its stance as the world’s ‘policeman.’ While many think of its interventionist nature as annoying, think of it as a way of globalizing the values of democracy, integrity, and justice that it embodies while a considerable portion views it as a means to protect her interest and that of her allies. With the advent of the cold war and the rising of the states, enemies rose ranging from the communist USSR and the emergence of terrorism which was a fight by a section of extremist Muslims who based their hatred towards America. Since most of these plotting against the country was done from other countries, USA had to intervene in the countries in which the action took place. Such countries include Cuba, Iraq, Vietnam, and Libya; all evidence points to the fact that the entry of America into those disputes resulted from a direct need to protect her interest as well as those of her allies.
United States foreign excursions and the role played in protecting American interests
Vietnamese and Cuban wars
While the Vietnamese war was an actual ground war, Cuban war was majorly diplomatic with little spats of real violence. What these two share in common is the interest of the Americans in their fight against communism. Vietnam, for instance, was a promising country and would have been an integral ally for the Americans in the Far East helping with their commercial interest in the region. However, the emergence of a socialist faction was a threat to that dream, and civil war arose in which the US supported one faction while Russians supported the other. In Cuba, dalliance with Russia exposed America to attacks from her neighbor hence the war was a way in which the country was directly protecting itself.
Operation desert storm (Entry into Iraq)
Despite the fact that one of the reasons for involvement was the dictatorship of the then resident Sad is Hussein, America felt unsafe for the nuclear weaponry that the strongman was developing in the country. In spite of the fact that Iraq posed no direct threat to the United States, it was still a mortal enemy of Israel one of the staunchest allies in America. Successfully developing radioactive missiles would have significantly disadvantaged the Israelis hence it’s another reason for the invasion.
Libyan revolution
Occurred within the past couple of years, Muammar Gaddafi the Libyan leader at the time was forcefully removed from power by being killed in a bloody coup that US-led. Following years of frosty relationship between Gadhafi and Washington, the American government finally found a way to get rid of the dictator a position they took because of his alleged dalliances with terrorist groups. In the periods before his death, allegations of funding various terrorist groups were brought against the president were brought most of which were unconfirmed.
Syrian revolution
Still ongoing to date, American troops have engaged the Syrian government alongside government rebels a position which hasn’t gone down well with Russians who have opted to support the government instead. Both countries joined the conflict after its initial stages because civilians formed a sizeable number of the casualties some of which were nationals of the USA who went into the Middle Eastern country either as observers, humanitarian aid workers or just journalists.
