Humans have a craving for freedom, which guides them to break most of the rules that seem oppressive to their liberty. It is the core reason people hate places where they are treated with lesser freedom than other people. Looking at an example of the nations colonized by superpowers, the colonizers were allowed to have extra privileges while the other people were not allowed. In such an instant, the nation that was colonized had uprisings against the oppressors. The same idea applies to issues such as racism. While some communities are treated us better people, the other races are treated as lesser people who do not deserve as many preferences as the other people in the nation. This paper explains a time when I felt that I was shackled while the other people were not. It also explains the impact of such knowledge on my perception of the world.
On 25th May, a police officer killed an African American artist named George Floyd. The result was a worldwide uprising against the act that was both racist and police brutality. On social media platforms such as twitter, the people made hashtags that were against the vices shown. I felt as if I was shacked in two ways; one of them is the weakness that the place is more powerful and allowed to break the law compared to civilians. In addition to that, I felt as if the American dream was not a fact. In the current world, people see the Americas as a place where the American dream can be accomplished. The American dream is an idea that the place is full of opportunity and that all individual goals can be achieved as long as they work hard enough for them. Based on the same idea, many works of art have been developed to enhance the American dream theory.
However, the idea of the American dream is opposed by the racism that has been common in the United States. The people are not placed as equal, but instead, the white people are treated as better people compared to the African American Counterparts. It is a violation of the idea that the Americas are a place where te people can live in liberty without fearing discrimination.
Based on the ideas that felt shackled, I saw the world as an unfair place where the people have mistreated n basis such as race. I wanted to change the people’s perspectives into ones that were more friendly compared to the current unfair treatment that people are exposed to. It also created the impression that the norms or laws expected to be followed in the community are just fallacies, whereby people only follow them when they are beneficial. An illustration is when a person is mistreated for their race, yet there us an idea that America is a land of equal opportunities. It is a violation of a known norm, which further contradicts the idea of freedom.
