Abortion as an Ethical Issue
Introduction
Abortion is one of the global ethical issues that significantly affect the world. Abortion is termed as the process of terminating a pregnancy in a pregnant mother using medicine (Jones & Jerman, 2017). e. Use of medicine to end pregnancy works effectively by removing the fetus from the uterus, and its mainly done by professional doctors. This paper explains abortion as a vital ethical issue based on the core beliefs, a resolution to abortion as an ethical issue, evaluating the proposed resolution to the ethical issue, and its comparison. Abortion is clearly described as an illegal act, although some people believe that it should not be considered in any situation. Based on a Christian worldview, abortion is considered going against life, as highlighted in the ten commandments in the exodus book.
Ethical dilemma
There is an ethical dilemma on abortion’s ethical issue of abortion, whereby some people do support abortion while others go against it based on various complicating factors. One factor is that some people believe that abortion should never be considered in any situation (Jatlaoui et al., 2017). Moreover, the life of either the mother or the child to be born is another complicating factor as the majority would prefer saving the mother’s life rather than getting the child. The resolution to such a scenario is having consideration of the life of the affected individual. In such a scenario, people would prefer saving the mother’s life rather than the life of the child. Another resolution is considering the teenage of the affected individual. In the case of a child that the pregnancy may be due to rape, abortion may be a preferred way.
Core Beliefs
From the Christian worldview, Christians believe in adhering to ten commandments, of which one of the ten highlighted commandments is that; one should not kill as according to the Bible. Also, as Christians going against abortion reflects the right way of adhering to the core values. Furthermore, Christians’ commitment towards such core beliefs reflects that one will not have any thought of terminating a pregnancy.
Resolutions to abortion as an ethical issue
One of the best resolutions to abortion as an ethical issue is that; giving birth instead of terminating the pregnancy. The adoption of giving birth can be affirmed by giving the affected individual enough support. If the affected individual is not financially stable, the individual can seek support from the church or the government health facility (Singh et al., 2018). Moreover, it is also good to enlighten people by giving the necessary knowledge about the existing codes based on the ending of pregnancies as such an act is termed as a criminal act. Individuals should also be enlightened about the existing rights, such as the right or decision of a person to bear a child, including the right of any woman to necessarily get a child or end a pregnancy.
Unintended consequences and perceived benefits of the resolution
One of the unintended consequences is where one prefers saving the mother’s life and thus end by terminating the child’s life to be born. Also, some ladies avoid being called mothers, especially when they get pregnant at their early age hence opt to abort, and such action may be termed as a perceived benefit to the resolution (Endler et al., 2018). Moreover, in the case of both saving the mother’s life and avoiding being called mother at an early age, people reduce stigmatization cases among the affected individuals, hence the unintended benefit of the resolution.
Comparison
Resolutions to abortion as an ethical issue based on the Christian worldview do contrast with a worldview. Abortion to Christian is termed as an illegal act as one goes against the Bible as it is portrayed in the book of exodus and especially in the commandment of ‘you should not kill’ unlike in the atheism way where such commandments as they exist in the Bible do not exist anywhere in the worldview (Endler et al., 2018). In the pantheism way, Christian believes that a born child is created in God’s image. Therefore, ending a pregnancy in the Christian worldview is termed as an illegal act, unlike in the worldwide where such beliefs do not apply. In the worldview, people may not adhere to the core values, which discourages abortion as it goes against the will of the Bible. Scientism factor, in comparison, much divert people from the truth and especially the worldview as people may involve themselves in the worldly things which are against the truth of God. Scientism provides people with basic knowledge of the entire process of terminating a pregnancy, which is conducted by highly trained professionals. Therefore, equipping people with such knowledge contributes to more frequent acts of abortion hence unlawful based on the Christian worldview, unlike the worldview.
Conclusion
In summation, based on a Christian worldview, abortion is regarded as a criminal act as it goes against the Bible. The paper also reviewed the ethical dilemma on abortion, core beliefs of abortion based on a Christian worldview, resolutions to abortion as an ethical issue, the unintended consequences and perceived benefits of the resolution, and the existing comparison based on Christian worldview and worldview on the resolutions. On the ethical dilemma, some people are believed to support abortion, especially the worldview, unlike the Christian worldview, whereby abortion is regarded as an illegal act. Moreover, core beliefs based on the Christian worldview, adhering to such commandments as highlighted in the Bible are a way of promoting core values among Christianity, unlike in the case of the worldview. Moreover, on the unintended consequence, where one prefers saving the mother’s life and thus terminating the child’s life to be born is termed as a benefit to some extent. Besides, some ladies avoid being called mothers, especially when they get pregnant at their early age hence opt to abort, and such action may be termed as a perceived benefit to the resolution (Endler et al., 2018).
