Discussion Response: Leadership and Management

Hi Roman,

Your definition of differences between leadership and Management is the ability to properly utilize available resources to complete a needed task, and leadership is being a good role model. Aside from this, both roles are different despite being top-ranking positions of power. Management entails more of a controlling aspect when dealing with subordinates, such that the manager directs people to do so. On the other hand, a leader inspires and encourages the group they are in charge of to achieve a collective goal. (Gomez, 2023). As you stated, however, a leader and a manager can be the same individual, depending on the task required. They are seen as a guiding light for the team they are in charge of as they give directives for work that needs to be done. This means leaders and managers have similar skill sets to ensure effectiveness. (Azad et al., 2017)

Hi Mohan,

I agree that a leader always looks out for the future of the organization and its workers. At the same time, a manager sees that operations run smoothly until the completion of a project. This means a manager’s focus is mainly short-term, while a leader’s focus is long-term. You state that both a leader and a manager have different directives to achieve success, which differentiates them. According to (Nayar, 2013), a manager “counts value” while a leader “creates value .”A leader allows workers to handle issues effectively and creatively, bringing freedom to the workplace and creating a better work environment. A manager looks at work done and if it is up to the required standard, not impacting the job’s completion process.
