Defining Scope
The collecting requirement is more like collecting items or capabilities that a given customer requires in the final deliverable. The collecting requirements tend to specify the attributes, capabilities, and features of the project deliverable. The stakeholders’ requirements, such as wants, needs, and wishes, are analyzed to derive the requirements. Thereafter the requirements are prioritized to enable the determination of which project requirement should be included or excluded.
Defining Scope
The scope tends to describe the basic boundaries of the project. The defining scope further describes the tasks and activities that should be covered to fulfill the requirements. It also outlines the details included in the project and adds on the missing details that should be included in the project to be successful. The scope is divided into two categories, namely; product scope and the project scope. The product scope features characterizing the product, service, or the overall result. Project scope entails the work needed to deliver a given service, a product, or even the results defined in the product scope.
Notations
Scope tends to perceive the accomplishment of the project’s overall capability and the general result that the stakeholders wish to achieve. On the other hand, collecting requirements device the tangible items or the physical resources required to accomplish a given project. The scope defines the higher levels of the project while the collecting requirements define the granular levels, such as the project activities or the service/product details. While the collecting requirements are obtained from the stakeholders, sponsors, and customers, the project manager’s scope can add any essential needs that the stakeholder or customer did not include in the overall project. Yet, it is essential to make the whole project a success.
Examples
Collecting Requirements
These include; high-level conceptualization of the project, abiding by the project’s mission statement, and preserving, maintaining, or ensuring the vision of the project is followed to the brim (target fulfilled).
Defining Scope
Defines a workable plan and formula, approach the project with precision, including the project manager’s mindset, add on what was missing, procure protective cases, perform maintenance routine, and add what was missing from the collecting requirements.
