What other topics would you have liked to have covered in this course?
What other topics would you have liked to have covered in this course? The course has been an interesting one with varied topics; however, I would have liked to have covered other topics like problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and management competencies. I believe leadership is all about dealing with varied issues that, in most cases, are unforeseen; therefore, covering a topic that attempts to prepare leaders to solve these issues using the appropriate mechanism serves an essential purpose, especially with the right management competency. Nonetheless, communication and negotiation also serve a vital purpose in dealing with life issues.
- What reading did you find most interesting, and why?
During my study, I found culture and leadership rather interesting, given its unique evaluation of how leaders attempt to change and manage organizational culture. Notably, organizational culture dictates the operations of a particular organization; therefore, perfect management of organizational culture ascertains maximum productivity in its operations. Again, culture assures consistency in operations. Any deviation may lead to unfathomable consequences such as closure, as in the case of Carillion, whose leadership considered it a waste of resources to put up with the company’s pension obligations. Consequently, the company registered massive indifference in its obligations, leading to its eventual collapse in January 2018.
- How has this course changed your perspective or outlook moving forward?
This cause has changed my outlook for the better as I am now ready to tackle the myriad of obligations that come with a leadership role. I now understand the importance of engaging ethical leadership and the relationship between culture and leadership. Nevertheless, I have changed my perspective of likening leaders as policemen who await to crack the whip whenever things are not right. In contrast, leaders are an oasis for success by aligning strategic management, culture, power, and innovation.
- Any other topic of interest that you would like to add.
I would like to add change management, as leadership can be the driving force for change within the organization. In this 21st century, change is inevitable; therefore, I think change management would be a vital topic for consideration.
