Moral aspects of life
Question 1
The facts that Trent must consider now are; first, he must accept the fact that he made a mistake where he lied on Smith’s performance and attitude to be good and praising her for having a five years’ experience, and as a result, Smith lost the transfer opportunity. Secondly, Trent should consider continuing to attend the weekly coffee gatherings organized by Smith to bring her in a good mood to avoid landing into the trouble Smith is about to bring him on.
Question 2
Trent’s only open avenues are to make an intimate relationship and friendship with Smith’s husband to seal the ties between them. This will help a great deal prevent Smith from doing the evil things she is about to do and save Trent from the trouble. Besides, Trent has another open avenue of going straight to Smith and apologize over the mess he caused her; the embarrassment of losing the transfer opportunity and being denied the opportunity to receive her salary increase, since he has made her a ‘good.’ Still, false recommendation letter to let her prosper through his hands.
This incidence clearly illustrates and elucidates the need for a supervisor to behave morally at work because being a morally upright leader helps one to make very sober decisions based on his or her own moral stands, mental uprightness, not considering opinions from other people, thereby, evading from landing into trouble that befall as a result of not being firm in his or her position.
Leaders show moral aspects of life by striving to behave in a manner that best contends the higher authority, and finally inspire the juniors at work(Davidson & Hughes, 2020). Acting morally at work helps a great deal in preserving the leader’s status quo and the organization at large.
Question 3
It is a common thing that happens with supervisors lying when doing commendations of certain employees. As a matter of fact, many people who secure jobs in companies and organizations are not well qualified and fit for the position, bearing in mind that some people get jobs based on their relationship with the managers, supervisors, or directors of certain organizations. This is barely pegged on the fact that many officials are corrupt and full of ego. Many of them also do this because they want to win trust from other people; others do this for love affairs. However, drawing a point of discussion from the scenario of Trent and Smith, one can clearly say that Trent was not on a string ground when he was writing this recommendation, or probably he has any other agenda. Therefore, based on this explanation, I am certain that some supervisors are untruthful in cases where employee recommendations are concerned.
Question 4
It is right to say that salary is what actually makes people get attracted to taking any job. It is worth noting that salaries largely depend on the type of job that one does, the type of organization one works in, and the employer’s nature. Salary is also determined by the gender of employees, age, performance evaluation, and educational level (Gašević et al., 2017). Therefore, salaries perform the following functions; Making sure that employee first gets the acceptance of engaging in a job, work hard in delivering the best outputs on the task assigned to him or her because people always work hard targeting the salary at the end of the month, or after a stipulated time.
Secondly, salary helps make sure that employees live a comfortable kind of life compared to other people who are jobless and make them. They get to eat, buy clothes and cater to their families very effectively. In this view, salary basically helps the employee to improve their living standard. However, it is good to remember that if an organization has many employees, it will face challenges since there will be staff insufficient stability (Xia et al., 2018).
Apart from that, salary helps in inculcating in employees that the work they are doing is not charity work; neither are they being forced to do it, but to tell them that it involves professionalism; therefore, it should be treated with much seriousness.
Question 5
Employee appraisal should be used for a salary increase when evaluating their performance in the working setting. It is also done when reviewing an employee’s contribution to the organization, their achievement, skills, and growth he or she has demonstrated in her tenure (Kalyan et al., 2019). The employee salary increase is important to them, and as a result, they need to have proved to be hardworking, committed, and devote to the office assigned.
Increasing the salary to an employee’s definitely motivates them and gives them the courage to continue working, offering their best (Setiawan et al., 2018). Therefore, for one to receive a salary increase, they must measure to the organization’s set standard on employee appraisal standard over the last one year or several big years, depending on the organization that is hiring them.
