Safety Needs in Healthcare
Safety needs in health care are broad, and they range from the patients to the healthcare providers. When discussing the issue, it is essential to focus on a specific area to identify the areas that need safety when it comes to healthcare. In this paper, the discussion will entail an article by Catherin Conlan on the 10-patient safety concern healthcare providers need to know about.
According to WHO (2020), patient safety is when preventable harm is absent to the patients during health care provision. This may happen in different ways, such as medication error, diagnostic error, workplace safety measures, old hospital facilities problem, and data management problems.
Safety in healthcare starts with the patients, followed by the works of the healthcare providers, and finally by the state of the healthcare facility. Starting with the patient, it is essential to note that diagnostic error and medication errors are the many issues faced in health care. When patients arrive and are diagnosed with the wrong symptoms, it is probably and most likely that they will receive the wrong medication.
The safety needs also affect the healthcare provider providers when it comes to workplace safety measures. When the working place conditions are not suitable, it becomes difficult for the nurse to ensure the practice’s safety since they are in danger since their safety is not accounted for.
Finally is the state of the facilities of the healthcare. When they are poor, it becomes for the healthcare providers to ensure their practice’s safety since the place risks their safety.
Therefore, to ensure healthcare safety, it is essential to consider the patients and the healthcare providers, and finally, the state of the healthcare facilities.
