Group development can be defined as forming the association of individuals who work together and directing their actions towards achieving common goals. The group development undergoes various stages. The first one is forming where members come together and agree to work as one team to understand each other well. It, therefore, implies that they are in a socialization stage hence the excitement. In this stage, individuals are accepted in the group to ensure that there will be no possible conflicts or any social issues. This is to ensure that they will work smoothly.
The second stage is storming. After the individuals have formed a group, they will start making interactions mainly within the context of the task that they intend to do. This is a group development stage that is characterized by competition and conflict. In this stage, dominant members are always in front while confrontational members remain silent. The third stage of group development is norming, where the members will start settling in a group according to the responsibilities they have towards a specific task. They will establish a cohesive relationship with each other. They stay in the lane of group objectives.
The fourth stage of group development is performing, where individuals have synergy and work towards accomplishing the set goals. In this stage, the members are flexible and interdependent, where the team members have known each other well. This stage is also characterized by the changing roles of the group members. The last stage is adjourning, where after completing the required task, the group is terminated. This is because each group, once created, has its purpose, and once this is accomplished, they are all set to leave.
