Hot and Cool Executive Functioning
In Lesion study, he identified the distinction between hot and cool EF to be, hot EF is dissociable from executive functioning, and that impairment in hot EF is assessed by the measure of making risky decisions, gambling, and discounting delays, and many others these things can occur if cool EF impairment is absent. The cool and hot EF, therefore, were found to develop independently. Hence the hot EF delayed or took a different development trajectory when compared to cool EF. Although cool and hot EF are dissociated in the brains of Lesion, it’s important to note that they can work together as an adaptive function which is more general; therefore, this difference is important since for a person to solve a problem which is motivationally significant (Zelazo & Carlson, 2012). He first needs to step back and start reflecting upon those problems for him to contextualize them and have them considered an abstract.
