The vice-presidential debate took place on October 7, 2020, where senator Kamala Harris a democrat, faced off with vice president Mike Pence a republican. Both came aiming to salvage the situation from the presidential debate showcase full of interruptions and insults. Though dodging questions, their moderator, Susan Page, kept them in line and gave them the time allocated them of two minutes each.
The first communication tactic to most candidates seems a restricting law is a saving grace is the time given for each response. The fact that the debating set time is two minutes prepares the candidates psychologically to realize how important it is to internalize their message. When a candidate is giving a chance to express themselves, they ensure establishing the message in as few words as possible—both candidates-maintained discipline without interrupting each other and remaining in their time frames as much as possible.
The candidates gave criticism that promoted positive self-talk. When answering a question, they first retorted, countering the opponent’s retort and then proceeding to their content. When Harris criticized Trump’s administration on coronavirus response, Mike Pence first gives Americans a voice saying each matter giving the impression that Harris devalues life (Kate Sullivan, 2020). He follows this by saying that implying what the American people have done over the pandemic people undermines the sacrifices the American people have made.
Staying away from extensive vocabulary, passing the message across with as few articulate words. Harris centralized on the failure of the Trump government to combat with the coronavirus. Coronavirus, as Harris says, is the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country. Claiming that the government was not transparent with its citizens. Being blunt and not mincing her words is a good tactic of communicating the message clearly and quickly.
