Abstract
However, it has not gotten attention. This has led to study of communication crisis by use of delphi method where a panel of experts and scholars were used in the study, a consensus used to arrive at the findings. An international delphi study was conducted by involving 22 international crisis experts on communication crisis research and education. The findings was that there is need to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
Delphi method use
Delphi method has been applied to investigate the research state of communication crisis as well as education by use of experts (Schulte, 2017). In public relation it has been noted that there is progressive use of the method since late 1980 to 2010, where 25 Public relation publications are identified that contain a consensus by use of qualitative approach.
There was realization that the existing studies in communication crisis had a limitation as they had used quantitative and descriptive approach rather than qualitative approach use. In addition less scholars had studied the subject area thus prompting to international communication crisis delphi study as there was need to enrich existing information.
The international delphi study provided a base for improvement in communication crisis as it established the gap that existed between academia and industry. There was a consensus that there is need to integrate knowledge and practice to enable professionals to be effective in communication and also identification of concerns that should be addressed by practitioners. Involvement of all stakeholders was also acknowledged to be key for progress and change in public relation field.
Conclusion
The international delphi study has contributed to progress in communication and providing information for stakeholders decision making and future areas of research in communication.
