A Personal Narrative about My Learning Strategy
Individual learning has been an exciting experience throughout my course. I have been mainly embracing a learning strategy that did not encourage group discussions with my colleagues in class. However, it reached when I had to change this habit and involve my peers in every aspect of my learning process. Group discussions have significantly shaped my learning process and contributed to my performance in numerous ways. Initially, I believed that conducting personal studies could yield better results and contribute positively to my academic performance.
Nonetheless, I later realized that interactive learning could deliver better results compared to individual learning. For instance, I have learned numerous concepts from my peers, which I could not recognize if I kept learning individually. My colleagues have been contributing critical ideas and opinions towards a particular subject leading to my academic improvement.
The change in thinking regarding my learning strategy can be attributed to numerous factors. Firstly, I noticed that classmates who used to embrace group discussions realized positive results. Their academic progress has influenced me to emulate their learning strategy to improve my performance as well. Nevertheless, this strategy has not disappointed me since the time I began practicing it. My understanding has improved drastically, and I am currently portraying an exemplary performance. Secondly, I have noticed that team learning eliminates boredom and motivates learning to become vibrant in their studies. Learning as a team encourages students to contribute actively towards every discussion and homework. This knowledge has encouraged me to present critical ideas and opinions to my colleagues to develop a concrete solution towards every problem and assignment. Besides, I have embraced a habit of gauging the arguments presented by my colleagues to come up with the most suitable answer.
My tutor and lecturers have played a critical role in the change in my learning strategy. The majority of our instructors have been encouraging learners to form groups that would enable them to handle essential assignments. The instructors argued that these groups would allow the learners to simplify their work by dividing the task. I embraced the opinions presented by my instructors regarding the formation of groups to facilitate team learning. Although I was not confident that these groups would work positively towards my academic performance, I believed it would be suitable for learners. This aspect significantly changed my thinking to embrace team learning as my new learning strategy. I became seriously engaged in team learning in my previous year of study. However, my performance in the current year is far much better compared to my last year. As such, I am motivated to embrace this strategy until the end of my course. Besides, I have realized that the individual learning strategy used to welcome previously has contributed to my average performance in my previous year of study.
My learning has been relatively smooth since the time I began embracing team learning strategy. Previously, I experienced very challenging moments when handling critical assignments that required sharing ideas. Nonetheless, my previous leaning technique could not allow me to borrow ideas from my colleagues about the most effective strategy for handling critical tasks. After adopting a new learning strategy, I tend to borrow useful ideas from my instructors and classmates when faced with a challenging assignment. Besides, the classmates act as a valuable tool for conducting group discussions for revision purposes and handling homework.
Additionally, the strategy has shaped my thinking and made me realize that academic excellence cannot be achieved quickly without combining efforts. As such, I have begun using my colleagues as a tool for educational excellence by sharing ideas and work division. Moreover, my learning process has improved significantly through the moral and academic support that I get from my peers. Changing from individual learning to team learning strategy has contributed positively to my learning outcome.
