Informed Consent
Ethical rights are considered personal and voluntary acts that individuals take part in to show if they are right or wrong. Shi & Singh (2019) state that there are different legal and ethical issues within the healthcare system. Some of them include confidentiality, informed consent, and medical negligence. Informed consent is a legal and ethical requirement that is made up of two primary elements. The first is comprehension, which also known as understands, and the other is free consent. These elements are constituted together and for self- determination on the patient’s side (Shi & Singh, 2019). The elements that the capacity of a patient to consent and understand what he is being told. Informed consent has been an ethical issue when the caregivers do not let the patients decide about their health.
The solution to informed consent is that the patient should be told about his condition, and the type of treatment is provided, and he should make decisions about it. The organization should be based on the four principles of informed consent. The first principle is based on the ability that a person has to make decisions. The other is that the medical provider has to disclose information about the procedure, test, and treatment. Shi & Singh (2019) state that the expected benefits and risks of the treatment should also be told to patients. The patients must comprehend the relevant data and voluntarily grant consent without any form of coercion. In case the patients cannot make independent decisions, their relatives or guardians can help make decisions. Healthcare professionals must ensure that they notify the patients and their families about it (Shi & Singh, 2019). They should do this for the patients to evaluate the costs and the benefits and risks of the procedure. It reduces cases of blame games whereby the patents blame the healthcare practitioners in case something goes wrong.
