Successful Management
Successful management is crucial in an organization and is mostly dependent on the attributes of the managers. Having the right qualities can make all the difference in the organization. Employees find qualities such as hearing, motivating, commanding, and communicating effectively as vital and valuable in a manager. The ability to trust employees without micromanaging them can result in participation, employee retention, and productivity.
I remember a manager who has never left my mind, I always looked upon him, and I found his qualities as very valuable. What made so good was that he had built a work culture of trust where there were no negative consequences for mistakes as he had taught us that mistakes were but milestones. He used to focus on our strengths and appreciate every single accomplishment that every employee made. He never micromanaged us and thus retained employee morale and motivation. Every employee and high management held high esteem for the manager. All the employees praised him and enjoyed working under his leadership. I believe, if I got a management position, I would emulate him. Under his management, I discovered that trust, focusing on the employees’ strengths, clear communication, and recognizing my employees’ efforts would be the only key to successful management.
Under a different department in the same organization, I worked under the worst manager I have ever encountered. Under his management, we never had personal independence. He used to over-assign tasks and control every detail. Therefore, the manager had favorites in the department and never recognized any achievement and accomplishment I made. Members below my rant would get promoted despite being the most experienced member in that department. He never offered guidance regardless of setting unrealistic goals. Some of my teammates suffered as I did while those who he favored liked him. I am confident that I would not emulate such attributes as a manager. I would not want anyone to go through what I went through due to a bad manager.
