Customers are the key drivers of business success. With the current technological advancement, the business has taken a step further to ensure that they are up to date. In particular, retailers have taken their business online as a way to meet customers’ needs at the comfort of their homes. A customer needs to go and sign up in online platform and place orders, and then the delivery is made to them. However, at the point of signing up to a particular online shopping platform, the details of the customers are left with the owners of the media. Due to the high rise in the number of cybersecurity threats, the retailers are task with the responsibilities of ensuring that the customer’s information is maintained confidential. As such, most online retailers have devised various strategies to protect their customers. The first strategy is the use of a strong password. Online retailers demand that a customer provide a strong password at the point of signing up to the platform. A Strong password is the one with a combination of alphabets, symbols and numerals. Having such a password makes it hard to hack. Secondly, online retailers ensure that they are updated with security patches. Old versions are prone to hacking, and thus retailers ensure that the software and other applications used to run their platforms are updated frequently to the latest version. Third, online retailers provide that they only collect essential data. The typically online platform is optimized with a call to action (CAT) which makes it easy to gather a lot of information of a customer. However, not all the data collected will be required by a retailer in the process of performing the business. Instead, too much of information increased the risk of loss of customer information. Therefore, online retailers prefer collecting only necessary data that is easy to protect.
