Spanish ibex is one of the most emblematic species to find in the Sierra Nevada. Spanish ibex is referred to as Capra pyrenaica. ( Alados, 1985). This means that Capra pyrenaica is the scientific name of Spanish ibex. Currently, there are over 15,000 of these species. They are found in most national parks around the Sierra Nevada; however, they are primarily found in the Spanish Iberian Peninsula. Spanish Ibex get to migrate sometimes to the coast of Portugal. Spanish Ibex is a mountainous animal. They are characterized by huge, flexible hooves and short legs. Spanish have special adaptations that enable them to run on bare rocky, rough and steep slopes. They have a brownish color, which acts as their color.

The Spanish ibex has a significant ecological role in the Sierra Nevada. These creatures are credited for warning other animals of potential danger. In a sense, they warn other animals of proceeding predators. This species has been under several strict legal frameworks. This is because their numbers have been recorded to be declining drastically. Some of these species have gone extinct. However, the species is currently under strict legal watch. Recent extinctions have left only two species of Spanish Ibex. One fun fact of this species is that males are greater in size and have longer horns than females. Additionally, these animals reside in areas endowed with cliffs and scattered scrubs.

Response on Peer’s Post

The author has presented a detailed definition of Western Monkshood. The author has offered a clear scientific name and ecological role of the plant. Besides, a detailed account of its physical trait and threats affecting the plant has been described satisfactorily. It was a good piece that I found very intriguing.
