Evidenced-base in design
Despite the military and economic power that America wields, it is a surprise that it still lags in getting proper healthcare for all its citizens. However, in the recent past, Congress has been working to address this issue through the proposal and enactment of policies and legislation to help all Americans access the right healthcare at the right price. Family Support Services for Addiction Act of 2020 will enable Americans who problems with substance addiction get more support from family members because there is adequate evidence that family-based support helps people overcome this issue.
The proposed policy addresses drug and substance abuse from family support. It aims at establishing a grant program for nonprofit organizations that provide support for people with substance abuse problems and their families (US Congress, 2020). The organizations can then use the funds to enhance support through education, provide a support network, and provide evidence-informed tools for the families better to manage their loved ones with substance use disorder.
I believe there is an evidence base to support the proposed healthcare policy. Evidence shows that family members are the most likely to notice any changes in a person’s mood, attitude, and behavior due to substance use (Awgu, Magura & Coryn, 2016; Pettersen et al., 2019). For example, a person may become hostile to situations that they were okay with previously. A person may also start being abusive to people around him or her. Family members, therefore, are the first ones who raise the red flag. Also, family members show genuine concern when a member experiences addiction (Liu, Currie & Adamyk-Simpson, 2018). For instance, a person would be miserable to see his mother getting wasted by alcoholism or cocaine addiction. Therefore, the relevant nonprofit organizations can help them by finding professional help, educating them on managing the condition more effectively, and providing funds to buy medications and meet other expenses.
To summarize, the Family Support Services for Addiction Act of 2020 will enable Americans who have substance addiction problems get more support from family members because there is adequate evidence that proves that family-based support helps people overcome this issue. The bill aims at grants for nonprofit organizations that help families with people who have substance abuse problems. Since there is adequate evidence to support family support’s effectiveness, the proposed policy will be useful for all Americans.
