Genetic cancer testing is vital as it will unearth some of the undiscovered genetic mutations that may be cancerous. These genes may be seen in their early stages and then mutate later to become dangerous to the human body submerging the body cells with their powers. Most of the hereditary genetic cancer cells are breast cancer, both one and two, ovarian cancer, and colon cancer. Other cancers that have been linked to a genetic mutation are fallopian tube cancer and peritoneal cancer. It will be imperative for the family health records to be accessed by every family member to know if there is any cancer history in their midst.
After any suspicions of hereditary cancer in the family, it will be essential in conducting the genetic test from a health professional who has adverse knowledge in all types of cancer and the hereditary behaviors of the cancer cells. Upon realizing any hereditary cancer that runs into our family, I will, therefore, stand out and get tested.
The considerations that I would have taken into account to prompt me to go for the test are to join the communal efforts to fight the cancer disease out our bodies. The topmost consideration is that I may fall victim to the disease since it is hereditary and genetic. I may have the cancer cells in my body without my knowledge. It will also help the upcoming generations to know there was someone who had the disease in society.
Whenever someone is presenting themselves to test for a particular disease, two results are awaited; that is either positive or negative. After testing the cancer genes, the positive results mean that the person has inherited the harmful mutation of cancer. However, a positive result does not tell if someone may develop cancer, as some women who inherit the BRCA1 or BRCA2 do not develop breast cancer. The impact of positive results in my life is that I will have to develop frequent checkup programs and cancer screening, affecting my social life and economic status after that. A negative result has got many explanations of the need to be understood within the concepts of genetics. In a nutshell, the negative result means that the person does not have a dangerous mutation present in other family members. Testing negative will make one be happy and take care of his or her family for a long time.
Either way, I would like to be tested to know if I carry the harmful mutations in my body that may not necessarily come from the generics. Testing is essential because it makes you alert when making long-term investments and decisions that may directly or indirectly affect the family.
