Global Issues in Hospitality Article – Week 7

The covid-19 pandemic statistics have been looked at by the John Hopkins University on hitting the tourism industry and the global economies. The W.T.O. has provided that there will be a reduction in the revenue collected in the tourism industry and hospitality to between three billion and five hundred billion in 2020 (Net, 2020), which will be equal to a third of the revenue that was generated last year. France is expected to lose up to forty billion per quarter. It is because of the detrimental effects that the pandemic is having on its economy. Writers like Anne Gobault, Jeremy Lemercier, and Caliare Grellier Fouillet looked at the damaging impact that the pandemic has caused to the global economies.

The first group of affected people is the Chinese tourists, who are significant spenders ahead of the United States tourists. Secondly, the crisis has had a significant impact on the main tourist destination centre, which is Europe. For instance, in 2018, it received more than six hundred and seventy-two million tourists, fifty percent of the world tourists getting to the international centers. A third of them went to France, Italy, and Spain. These are most hit by the pandemic countries, with the most popular destination centers like Milan, Paris, Florence, and Venice. Thirdly, the European countries’ weather is a significant factor determining the time to book holidays. There have been travel restrictions for most of the summer periods, making it difficult for tourists to travel worldwide. As a result, the tourist’s sector is a negative growth phase from 3-6%, as only a fewer individual has been able to travel around Europe. However, the crisis has caused the need to have strategic issues for tourism. As a result, it can be considered because of vulnerable conditions other than a period of instability. There have been studies because of the pandemic on how it can help change the tourism industry. besides, the pandemic has created a situation where the policymakers have to start doing critical thinking to ensure transformation (Net, 2020).

It is a telegraph news article looking at the hospitality industry’s measures because of the government’s measures because of covid-19. The news article provides that there has been a new wave of a pandemic affecting the citizens of the United Kingdom. The government has taken measures to ensure that the pandemic does not hit hard as the previous wave of attack. In this regard, it has put measures like a three-tier lockdown system, which will ensure that the areas with a high rate of the pandemic experience harsher measures. As such, the United Kingdom hospitality industry has staged a revolt against the government. They expect that there will be a lockdown of their restaurants and bars, leading to significant losses. As a result, they have gone for legal challenges against Boris Johnson’s government to prevent the strict measures that the government is posing (U.K. hospitality industry to launch a legal revolt against new restrictions, 2020).

It is a news article providing how it will be detrimental to the hotel industry during wintertime because of the corona pandemic. The Congress of the United States has failed to provide aid to the hotel industry. it provides that after seven months of severe rates, the federal government has not provided relief even though the tourism sector has employed more than eleven percent of the United States population. As such, there has been thirty-six percent of job losses. The recovery will only be expected to occur after three years when the pandemic has been dealt with. However, the federal government’s lack of relief will imply that there will be fifty percent of job losses in the industry at the end of 2020. As such, the tourism and hospitality industry was rallying the federal government to provide coronavirus pandemic and criticized President Trump. He stated that he would negotiate after the November election (Hotels face a dire winter without more relief from Congress, 2020).

It is a news article related to the one previously discussed restrictions imposed by the United Kingdom government because of the second wave of coronavirus attacks. Boris Johnson has defended his actions of putting measures claiming that having people in restaurants and clubs will increase the spread of coronavirus. However, the British Beer and Pub Association provides a contrary opinion stating that there will be permanent losses of jobs for individuals working in the hospitality sector. Thousands of people will be rendered jobless, and pubs targeting is a wrong move by the government. The areas that have been put on very high alert because of the pandemic will experience strict measures. Prime Minister provided examples of how they have closed bars and restaurants in Paris and Berlin, which indicates that they are using similar measures to control the pandemic (Boris Johnson defends restrictions on the hospitality sector, 2020).
