Practical Connection
Organizational behavioral theories, skills, and knowledge may not be quite practical at my place of work. Organizational behavior is about managing, understanding, and dealing with fellow employees’ issues while working as their team leader or supervisor; I am so interested in the course to acquire the skills to do all this in my team.
It is necessary to understand the behavior attached to every individual. People have different attitudes, emotions, and behaviors that ought to be understood by team leaders. Therefore, organizational behavior skills will benefit me in my current workstation as a team leader. I will have the best approaches to treat the different employees with different attitudes, emotions, and moods in the department or my concern team. Having the skills to observe the attitude and emotional changes among the employees will be easy and find a solution to overcome such situations with them at the workplace.
Working with people as a team leader in the software development section, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills are the best I can ever pick from this course. As the company grows, I may have a team that is more than the capacity has and also among the team of four that I currently lead, I will have the skills to ensure that in case of conflict, I have the right approaches for solution and negotiations among the conflicting parties.
The theories and skills from this course will help me solve behavioral change among the employees in my team. There are changes in behavior that are instigated by internal or external factors or changes, as explained in the Attribution theory of perception in the course. This is a concept that is practical in an organizational setup. The contribution of perception and attributes in decision-making helps understand why in a decision-making process as a team, one has to decide that is contrary to others and how to harmonize the thoughts without anyone’s idea being perceived as inferior to others no matter the attributes behind the opinion.
The motivation concepts are so important; the skills from the topic itself will help solve the different tough situations that employees sometimes have. As a software developer and a team leader, I will know when employees are supposed to be motivated and when they feel not motivated. I will know the importance of employees’ motivation and how different motivation concepts can be applied in my current workplace. I am also looking forward to the best motivation application from the course that is favorable to the employee and the employer to ensure a win-win situation for the company as a whole.
Being a team leader without this course’s skills may have been the challenge I secretly face with the team leader. Leadership as a topic in this course will be a solution to my leadership skills even as I learn how to deal with different employees with different backgrounds and different attitudes, as explained in the course. As a leader, the way I communicate must be guided by the skills and considerations in the course when dealing with different people; the course’s communication skills will ease my work in dealing with the team communication-wise.
