Social media has become the primary form of communication among the youths .this type of communication has merely changed the lifestyle of the children and causing to depression and also suicidal cases. Depression has increased mainly among our kids due to the increase of digital social media use. Researchers have shown that the use of social media has led to a decrease in joy and happiness, anxiety, lack of satisfaction and also increase in loneliness. The emerging of social media has been of significant impact on most youth. Still, currently, it’s negatively affecting the children in 2008 smartphones had a small percentage of about 20% but nowadays the numbers of smartphones have increased from 20% to 100% among the youth. Social media platforms are rising daily; we have Facebook, Instagram, snap chat, Twitter, YouTube, Whatsapp and tik-tok the most current platform. Facebook is the most common among our youths, and the users are high in numbers compared to other platforms. There are various effects of social media which are: it’s becoming the priority to most youths, displaying of fake people, cyber bullying, influencing on physical changes to the kids .lack of sleep, and also it’s tempting and addictive. The adverse effects lead to depression among youths.

The level of use of social media and leading to depression is familiar to girls compared to boys. The adolescent period is so crucial for the development of depression and anxiety among the youth. The girls use most more of their time online, and this leads to them getting more depression compared to boys. Using the observation method of research in 1-3 hours, 76% of the girls use social media platforms compared to 24% of the boys. And hence the percentage of girls getting depressed is higher compared to brother.
