Organizational change
Organizational change involves how organizations fluctuate its culture, technologies, operational methods, strategies, and structures to initiate new changes within the organization. Some organizational changes include remedial change, structural change, people organizational change, and strategic transformation. The National Agricultural Development Company (NADEC) is a company that operates in Saudi Arabia, and it has gone through significant organization changes successfully. The organization was successful in conducting both formal and informal structural change. Concerning the formal structure, the company was able to add new management with new techniques of observing interaction and behaviors when executing the recent change. The new team was also able to convince the employees through critical change awareness. Regarding formal structures, the new team introduced new chatting platforms where they depicted the explanation of how the new system will function to avoid misunderstanding.
NADEC applied the modified structure to deal with complexity and uncertainty in the environment by accepting the organization’s contradictions and ambiguities and loosening up to feel in control. Also, accepting temporary and partial truths from change and expecting surprises to be ready to conduct further modification. The company also was able to generate islands of complexity to improve the employees’ cognitive ability and seek diversity thinking across the organization. The response was appropriate because the company was able to avoid analysis paralysis and acted accordingly.
The existing structures could be approached through communication and education, support facilitation, involvement, and participation in decision making, implicit coercion, manipulation, and negotiation to promote acceptance and reduce resistance. The existing structures affected the ability to change through resistance and inadequate cooperation to the modified changes, made feasible through structures modification to promote acceptance among the employees. Therefore, a significant transformation in both formal and informal structures is crucial to realize change.
