Why do I want to be an ARMY OFFICER?
Introduction
Becoming a military commission officer is expected in the career progression of servicemembers. However, for me becoming an Army officer has been a lifetime dream. Thus, I have been continuously preparing for this role of a lifetime by ensuring physical fitness and studies. This paper outlines some of the reasons I aspire to be an officer in the army.
Reasons Why I want to be an officer.
As an officer, I am entitled to several benefits; first, I can advance my educational endeavors through scholarship; this means that all expenses are catered for at any of the selected military academies, including OCS, ROTC among others. Another benefit is the cost of living allowance; Secondly, I am entitled to a housing allowance as well as eligible for post housing. It amounts to a perk over above my base pay. The military and military leadership is also a golden opportunity for me to see the world as the service involves traveling. This scenario means that I can experience many different cultures, which can be an exciting expedition since I am paid as I tour the globe.
However, my main reason to be a military leader is far fetched; for me, it is about tradition; my family members have had a long history of military service and leadership. Thus I feel obliged to follow in their footsteps and achieve even more in military service; therefore, being a commissioner is a good start for more significant achievements. Secondly, my biggest motivation is the service of my motherland. I hate injustice personally; military service and military leadership are, thus, essential to help me actualize this conviction. Thus my interest in military service and leadership stems from the love of justice, my countrymen, and my country. In my opinion, the service is an opportunity to give something back for the opportunity and the trust my motherland has presented to me.
Also, through military leadership, I will get a chance to lead hundreds of thousands of soldiers; this will allow me to leverage my innate leadership skills. Further, the opportunity will enable me to gain quality, hands-on leadership experience that will ultimately make me a better person, soldier, and leader.
I believe that I am ready to be an officer in the military. This is based on several reasons; first, I am a born leader; in all my education, personal and professional life, I have taken it upon me to seek and leverage leadership positions to change the minds and lives around me. I believe I can extend this to the military. Further, I have served for four years as an active duty specialist after years of training. Thus, I am well aware of the duties of a military leader, the professional and military ethics, values, actions, indicators, factors, knowledge, and, most importantly, the principles that a good leader must employ to ensure commitment, honor prevails while providing directions to other service members.
Equally important, I understand that self-interest, pressure from seniors, peers, and subordinates can lead to unethical behavior. Therefore, I am well prepared through good communication, soldier team development, supervision, planning, professional ethics, technical and tactical proficiency, teaching, and counseling, use of available systems, and decision making to create a team of service persons who are loyal to the nation, the military and the unit through a commitment to duty and selfless service.
Conclusion
Finally, as I conclude, I must recognize that advancing my career in military service is not an easy process but requires hard work, determination, and of course, a college degree. Even though expectations differ depending on the service type, I believe that it is possible to rise within the ranks into military leadership positions. I believe I am ready to rise, and I will rise to the position of an officer.
