Introduction.
Magna Carta is a desirable book that is written by Dan Jones, who addresses a lot about the constitution and liberties of the west. The principle used is found in the constitution and the bill of rights even though the author dates the events to 1215. The same concepts still exist in the current bill of rights; the events are presented dramatically. In the book, the author addresses the rebellion that existed during that time, where King John was reluctant to sign a seal that changed the entire history (Green, 2017). The tittle Magna Carta was a peace treaty that got signed to end the rebellion, which existed physically. The author uses the main character to show great significance about the constitutionalism, and how the journey was difficult.
Significance of the Great Charter.
Magna Carta is the most outstanding achievement in the book, which is a document that got established to seal a contract. The seal covered the humanitarian rights and liberties that had caused the domestic rebellion in society. It led to many clashes in the book since the citizens got denied their rights and liberties. The Magna Carta is significant in the book since it helps to subject everyone to justice and law, including the King himself. The King knew what the citizens wanted, but he got reluctant to sing the seal since he had denied them their rights and liberties (Green, 2017). He was not willing to give the citizens their full rights since he benefited a lot while oppressing their rights.
The Magna Carta is a peace treaty that settled many issues in London according to the book since it ended the rebellion that had taken place at that time. The document granted the people the peace that they have been fighting for a long time. The Barons had made it possible for the treaty to get signed by King John, who had refused to give the people their rights and liberties. In many states, for people to get entitled to their rights and liberties, they have to fight for it, which has both positive and negative impacts. On the positive impacts, the people would get their full rights and liberties, but on the negative consequences, they would lose many lives in the process (Pyrcz, 2017). The Barons led the entire city to battle for their rights and liberties, which they were denied for an extended period.
The great charter has a great significance in England, especially on their current parliamentary democracy. The Magna Carta is a set of agreements that informs the citizens on how they should live with peace and harmony. It entails a lot of details that have helped to shape the current democracy existing in England today. First and foremost, the Magna Carta had 63 clauses that aimed to protect the human nature during 1215, which one of them was, a person gets subjected to trial before getting convicted or stripped of their rights and liberties. It is one of the things that have remained in practice to date in England. It is because the people got imprisoned without even proving if the person had committed the crime. Being subjected to trial means that a person is innocent until proven guilty by the court of law. In the process of judgment, the suspect is also entitled to their full rights and liberties that can help them find a way out of the judgment (Green, 2017). From this point is where the phrase “justice delayed is justice denied” since, in the treaty, it stated that no persons should get denied or delayed judgment whenever an incident happens.
The Magna Carta has shaped the current constitution of England since the concept in it gets used by the government of England. I could say that Magna Carta is the mother of democracy in England even though the treaty itself was never fully implemented. Some parts of the treaty got ignored since King John was upset due to the Barons rebels who had forced him to sign it. The same strategy is often used in the current England government, whereas everyone has a say in the government, especially when it comes to election. The rebels had started to react since King John had stayed in power for long, and he was oppressing the people’s rights and liberties dehumanizing their legal obligations (Pyrcz, 2017).
Circumstances of Signing the Great Charter, and its Significance in the Author’s mind.
The circumstance during the signing of the great charter was tensional since the Baron rebels had taken over the entire city, making King John feel paranoid. Even though it wasn’t at his will to sign the treaty, he was forced since he had no option because the Baron rebels had overpowered him. King John had to agree with everything in the treaty since he had no alternatives, and the situation was terrifying (Pyrcz, 2017). One could tell that, if King John refused to sign the treaty, he would risk his Kingship, which he valued the most. In this instance, the King signed even though the content in the treaty never favour him, especially the situation he was in. it is because the Baron rebels were determined to find their peace, rights, and liberties at all cost.
In the author’s mind, the significance of the treaty was to end the war that had taken place, making the King give in on the situation. The importance of the great charter was to show the power of the people and what they can achieve whenever they unite. The great charter is another way of ending the conflict that existed for many years, which had a tremendous impact. The author wanted to show its significance in solving matters relating to society, especially if it can last for long. Indeed, it stayed for a while, and it granted the people peace in the country even though not everything got implemented.
Conclusion.
Magna Carta is a great charter that the author tries to show its power in his book, how it solved conflicts during that time leading to one great agreement. It is a way of showing that war is not the only solution for solving disputes within society. On the other hand, the treaty had a great significance in England since it made it possible for the country to practice democracy, which favours all the citizens in the country.
