All-American TV Show Analysis

From the genre of drama/sport, the All American is a show basing on a true-life story of NFL player Spencer Paysinger. The show is a story of a high school footballer player Spencer James and the people around him. Spencer being a rising football player at South Crenshaw, goes through difficulties when Billy Baker, a coach from Beverly High, asks him to join his team. However, his mother and best friend Coop convinces him to join by convincing him that it is an opportunity that life has offered him. With him accepting to join Beverly Hills, he now lives between two worlds when he moves in with the Bakers family so that he can secure his transfer permit and Compton the place he calls home. While in Beverly Hills, Jordan, the coach’s son is not happy because he believes that his father is giving Spencer all of the required attention than him. While still struggling to fit in the family, Spencer meets Olivia, Jordan’s sister, who is struggling to recover from drug addiction and overdose (Cohn 1). On the other hand, of the school, he meets Layla, Asher’s girlfriend, and he develops some crush for her .after Asher realizes that Spencer has some crush on her girlfriend, he is determined to push him out of the football team and out of Beverly Hills for good.

One of the critical visual/aural elements to enhance film effectiveness and the motion picture is editing. However, fast pacing is one of the issues that the All-American series used. The film puts its audience in the feeling alone dimension by rushing through different plots without allowing the audience to know much of its characters. Before the audiences have known much concerning Spencer’s life, his life changes as he joins another school. Despite proving to be a canny editing formula, the show becomes apparent when the author adds interest to its content at the end of the first three episodes.

Rather than being a generation of soul-searching youths, the movie brings out the current zeitgeist through different characters that are passionate to live life another way in a new free spirit. For example, the film brings out the zeitgeist of the wealthy through Asher whose family were once wealthy, but they are not wealthy now.Through wealth and social class, we see that the dominating attitude of the zeitgeist is through the fashion engine regarded as the transaction which a particular individual wishes to fit or remain in a specific social group. Asher being used to wealth is afraid to tell his girlfriend Layla that they are now poor; instead, he keeps on pretending that they are still rich (D’addario). In regards to communication and entertainment, the author brings out the current zeitgeist with the use of cell phones, portable music systems and computers in the film. Another current Zeitgeist represented in the movie is fashion through the super-utilitarian clothing that the characters put on. The Television show reflects the way society today acts towards people based on their race or social class through the protagonist Spencer James. From the white parent who declares that Spencer does not belong to Beverly to the classmate who refuses to share his laptop with computer-less Spencer, the author brings out the issue of racism (Silver 1). The theme of social class and race comes out when the author portrays the Baker’s as a multiethnic family that is more concerned about their social class than their race.

Conclusively, the film has more ideas and ways of expressing zeitgeist of the current society. The form and content reflect the zeitgeist of the modern culture by bringing out society’s views and actions towards people basing on race and social class. The film also brings out the difficulties people face because of the way society treats people. Through Spencer; we can detect some social cues that remind us where we belong. With the two families colliding, the author brings out how two different cultures can learn from each other, therefore proving to be a film with the real promise of how society behaves.
