Representation of Disney Princesses in the Media

Currently, we live when we all view media as one of the most significant influential figures. Several concerns have been raised that leaves women and girls at unfavorable situations that need to be criticized. In Isabelle Gill’s “Representation of Disney Princesses in the Media,” it is evident that women characters are frequently trashed. Reviews in the Disney films have proved to be damaging the image depicted in the movies justifying to be more sexist and biased.

The world proofs to be comfortable with women being sexually deemed human beings. Women in various positions, whether in congress, athletics, magazines, or televisions, are always feminized. The Author illustrates the misinterpretation that the media aims at different women, resulting in severe social arena judgments. For instance, diminishing the perception of women in various positions and reinforcing antiquated roles of women. A woman is a powerful being and can do better than what a man does, but when such misinterpretation of gender in the media can alter what we all know to be correct.

Disney’s movies are known to be the most influential and educational to children on gender roles. Young girls are seen to look up to the princess and embody their roles. When they see princesses’ beautiful pictures, they get encouraged and struggle to be like her. Disney’s movies have helped young girls understand how to act, behave, and carry themselves around.

The Author does broad research on how Disney princesses are feminized. She started by studying England and Descartes’s gender portrayals in Disney’s first nine films with prince and princesses coded content analysis approach. She found out that both played with male characteristics. They all founded fourteen male quality words and sixteen female quality words used. Grill gave a genuine and evidence-based response as to why she is convinced that princesses are sexualized. After a precise analysis of this article, I am saddened by how females worldwide are feminized. I am confident that it is an issue that needs an open discussion. It is more educational to see the newer princesses exhibiting masculinity and feminine qualities. It draws an image on how we are progressing through not satisfactorily it shows that there is hope in the future
