Human Rights
Civil Rights in the USA with the UN Declaration of Human Rights have some rights in common such as; Freedom of religion, speech, and press, from discrimination, association and assembly, from unlawful search and seizure, from arbitrary arrest, from cruel and unusual punishment or torture, from slavery, from an illegal seizure of property and the rights to due process, to vote and to a fair trial.
However, the US government has the following rights that the UN does not have; Freedom from housing troops, the Right to bear arm, and Right to a jury trial (Sikkink
,2018).On the other hand, the UN Declaration of Human Rights has the following rights that the US government does not have; Right to rest, to participate in culture, to be innocent until proven guilty, to remedy, to a nationality, adequate living standards, and food, to desirable work and trade unions, to free movement, to asylum, to social security, to education (Baileys 2016)
The US government is more expansive, and it protects both political and civil rights compared to the UN.
The US constitution should secure and provide more rights. This is because it does not recognize some of the cultural, social, and economic rights guaranteed/pledged in the UDHR, such as the Right to education found in other state constitutions (Sikkink, 2018). Other Statutes or regulations, such as adequate living standards (food, medical care, shelter), should not be addressed as a need for some people; instead, it should be entitled to all citizens.
